Talking of Tim Curry, anyone know where I can get Lexx dvd's cheap from (Play.com has sold out and I'm not sure they're worth the £25 HMV, Virgin etc want for them)?

Very wierd indeed. I've caught the odd episode here and there on channel 5 but not enough to decide whether it's insanely brilliant or just pants :) So I thought I would start at the beginning.

yes - that's what I thought exactly! :) Did the very same thing. It's a different woman in the first four original films incidentally

Did anyone used to watch a show called "Now And Again"?

It used to be on ITV1 late at night. It starred Dennis Haysbert (black president from 24)

I missed the very beginning so I don't know the exact plot, but AFAIK it was something like this: A man died in an accident, and the US government managed to preserve his brain and implanted it into a bio-engineered body so he had vast amounts of strength and speed. The US government use him to catch hard to get criminals and such. Haysbert plays his handler. He still remembers his old life, so he is forced to have no contact with his widow and kid, and eventually, he convinces his handler to let him meet her and they get to know each other again. I know it sounds like a rip off of Robocop, but it really isn't. It had a bit of everything in it. Action, humour, drama, love.

I wish they'd bring it out on DVD again. I loved watching that show.

I remember it-another fairly ok series cancelled..possibly because it had a man with a great body as the lead...now if it had been a woman or rather a teenage girl with a great bod it would have lasted for another couple of series at least... ;)

The new one was still better than Galactica 1980!!!

I must admit I thought the new one was too slow. And not enough of the new cylons.

I got the impression that they rushed through the series without having the effects finished off properly.

And what the hell was with the end of the season?

I've got the original series box set and must admit I enjoy watching that more than the new one. Although I'll no doubt give the new one another go when the new season starts.

Sorry, but the old one was terrible IMO.

Dire plots, corny dialogue, cute kids, a pantomime villain...

At least in the new one they've paid some attention to plotting and the characters seem like *real* people.

I gave up on the old one but I'll stick with the new one.

Does anyone remember an old TV comedy show called "Out Of This World", in the late eighties? It featured this teenage girl who had an alien father and he used to talk to her through this weird chrystal pyrimid in her bedroom. I haven't seen that since I was a sprog. I'd love to see it again.

I wish some of these shows were easier to get on DVD.

I think so... I think her old man gave her like a new special power now and again. Bit hard to remember, I don't think I have seen it since I was 8.

I remember the song though, weirdly enough (well the first line anyway)

"Would you like to swing to on a star..."

I can't really remember the next two lines, but I think the forsth was "Or would you rather visit earth". Or something.

Earth 2
Total Recall 2070
Space: Above and beyond.
Odyssey 5

I got into these and well and truly smegged off with the way they finished.

Others which were good but got canned way too soon:

Nowhere Man
The Adventures of Brisco Country, Jr.
Brimstone

I also remember Earth: Final Conflict. Lasted more than one season, but still got killed prematurely in the end.

Nowhere Man DID have a final episode. It was a naff one.

Brimstine was another that I was peed off about as well.

Earth Final Conflict suffered from stars leaving and and the storyline finally being so cr@p I couldn't watch the last series. In the end I couldn't bear the actress they had as the heroine in the final series. She was blonde and useless. All the male totty had gone as well. :(

As for the ending of Angel. :grind:

The ending for Angel was done for a reason though, it was a last ditch effort to get uncanceled or picked up by a different network. So technically that never ended and we may yet get to see the ending.

Some recent bits;

Firefly - The move opens on Oct 7th in the UK

Stargate - Series 9 - O'Neill appears eps 1 & 3 and may return later in the series.

Charmed - Series 8 is confirmed, and will probably be the last.

Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (see below).

Spoiler:
The series one stories will be wrapped up by episode 7 - Adama is not dead, but recovery is slow - Tigh is in charge. Roslin is in Jail.

Yes, sadly not this time though. You're in for a treat when it arrives here though, the new series is much much better than the first. Given that the first series was already one of the best sci-fi TV shows in a very long time, I think I have to mark this series down as the best sci-fi TV show I have ever seen.

John Harrison, who wrote and directed The Sci Fi Channel's upcoming miniseries Frank Herbert's Dune, will adapt the second and third books, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, for a sequel. Harrison indicated that the sequel may be ready for release sometime in 2002.

As for the upcoming miniseries, Harrison said that he hopes viewers will avoid comparisons with David Lynch's 1984 feature-film that turned into an expensive flop. "I didn't set out to correct or remake Lynch's movie," Harrison said. "It's impossible to do justice to the book in a two-hour [feature]. I had the advantage of six, and I just tried to create a faithful adaptation of Frank Herbert's book."

The Sci Fi Channel's six-hour Dune miniseries is the most expensive programming produced for the network. Starring William Hurt and shot by Oscar winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro (The Last Emperor), the six hour epic cost $20 million to make, and even more to promote through theatrical trailers, video billboards, and an Internet ad campaign that began early this year. The miniseries airs December 3-5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The information is a bit out of date. The Children of Dune is already out.

there is a new series of 'Hex' starting on Sky One on the 18th Sept, I quite enjoyed the first one.

The only problem is that it clashes with 'Lost' & 'Jonathan Creek'...

Re: Science Fiction & Fantasy Snippets

'Jonathan Creek' is a repeat (and often repeated). As for 'Lost' - I find this boring, but am confused anyway, what channel are you watching it - on as I can't see it on a Sunday anywhere ?

'Jonathan Creek' has Julia Sawalha in it

'Lost' is on E4.

'Hex' also has a couple of 'incentives' to watch :naughty: - it is going to be a difficult choice. :)

It's repeated on C4 twice. So Hex is the winner. :)
