In any event the bloke nearly always comes off the worst anyway. Married or not, They talk about equal rights and pay but it doesn't appear to apply to that when splitting up in a relationship.

The thrust of my comments were that if a couple of whatever sex, gender etc wanted to enter into a legally recognised relationship they should be entitled to do so.
The govenment have used it for years with co-habitating couples.
As regards "commom law" marriage I put the relevant term in commas not that I agreed but it has never been challenged in law and at least 51% of the population (2003 I think) still exists.

The obvious answer would be to dissolve civil partnerships as they were only a halfway house before Marriage by gay people was considered acceptable. It's a bit pointless now everyone can marry everyone.

Why do we even need it now?
