Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
:) Well as usuall we'll just have to'wait and see' what 4th November 2004 brings, who knows maybe even the promise of higher speeds >4meg either 'on demand or a 'build your own' package.
Something along these lines would certainly bring NTL to the forefront and knock the current adsl offerings for a six, or 'just maybe' Telewest will announce it the day before leaving poor old NTL looking like a 'wannabee' ISP. Most of us that use this forum know that NTL have the technology, and indeed staff capable of implementing it and most importantly maintaining the network IF they were left to do the jobs that that were hired to do so instead of running around doing 'someone elses job' whos job description sounds vaguely like their own e.g contains the word 'engineer or technician' |
Reading RG6 4xb upgrade to 750k ?
Last working day of Oct, they are cutting it a bit fine - still no sign of any upgrade here as promised on the post code checker
I don't know why I'm not suprised by that  Anyone else nearby been upgraded OK ? I'v tried leaving SACM off for hours at a time to no avail |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Does anyone in the PA15 area had there SACM upgrade to 750Kb yet... I have been in touch with NTL and been told that this area is being done in November and they told me to check the post code checker to keep up to date but it says congratulations u were upgraded in August ??

Have the STBs been upgraded early? Last night, with DUMeter which has always been really accurate, my downloads were staying around 130k/s-140k/s, and hitting 160k/s. Certainly never did that before.

Whereabouts in Cambs do you live? I'm in Cambridge itself, connect using a standalone cable modem, & got my upgrade back in late August (I think) - despite the postcode checker saying it wouldn't be done until November. Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Just a quick thought about the newly announced speed upgrades - I take it this means all broadband customers will have to be given on of the new Samsung boxes, 'like all the 1.5meg customers did?
Cheers, Browneggsandham :) |

Yeah sorry, I did just mean the higher speeds - forgot about the 1meg. Sounds like a good deal to me - they're meant to be quite a bit better from what I've heard. Also forgot that Langley only currently use SAC modems, although I'm sure the Samsungs are meant to be launched there soon aswell.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I'm currently in the LE6 area, on a 1mb line, and still haven't recieved the upgrade yet :( Any ideas? They said September, then october, but haven't heard of any change yet.
My average speed using spped tests is about 1mb still (dropping to 750k often, and peaking at 1.2mb) but even when downloading form a very good HTML source, my peak is 121k, same as it's been for 2 years now. |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
on Leicester.
Stouffer I feel sorry for you, personally I dont think its right that some customers wait for what could be 6 months after other customer's for upgrades, and I am also in Leicester and now on 1.5mbit, but the performance is abysmal at the moment with fluctuating pings and transfer speeds, I think the Leicester part of ntl's infrastructure is in need of a rehaul we have been stuck on analogue tv and poorer internet performance then other national ntl customers for a while now. On upload speed increase I think ntl were planning on not increasing upload speed but didnt confirm this in case the market reacted since their initial announcement and now telewest have announced increased upload speeds and this new LLU ADSL residental isp from easynet I think ntl will raise upload speed's to keep with the pace, wether or not only the top tier gets the increase will remain to be seen but I would be surprised if we dont see 384kbit now. |

Who knows what ntl might do - ntl told me they are thinking of keeping the upload speeds as they are but as I have previously said this is probably an indication that they are still thinking about it.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Somebody needs to remind ntl of telewests upload increase, hopefully ntl will follow in suit.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I found it staggering that it could take 6 months to sort it out its either :- 1 - took them a aweful long time to do the upgrade. or 2 - the upgrades are been done but it is so bad before hand that the amount of work needing doing takes half a year or so to complete. Just seems ntl put more attention into certian area's I always hear about trials and so forth and the same area's always get the trial's so those area's probably get constant upgrade's as well to enable the trials to work out right and Leics just seems forgotten, I dont know if its the only area thats this bad but Leics is not a good area for ntl. What do I suggest ntl do? They can at least send a letter of apology out to customer's saying sorry for the delay and providing a proper reason why it has yet to happen, a compensation wouldnt go amiss either. |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I kinda feel for those not updated I was done early August and moved to 1.5mb Broadband and am very happy with my Sacm service.
I am moving house soon to a location near to where I am now and plan on staying with NTL who have been happy to help whenever I have had issues with anything. |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Does anyone know if the monthly bandwith allowances (1Mb/5GB a month, etc...) are official yet for the speed increases in the new year? I've found nothing at all about the increase on the ntl site.
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/...-speed-changes That page says the monthly usage is yet to be confirmed, whereas a page on another forum seems to suggest it has been confirmed, and also has a quote from Aizad Hussain, MD of ntl, and includes the comment "If you already have ntl Broadband your service will remain unchanged", so I assume if you remain unchanged you still have the (unenforced) 1GB a day limit as opposed to getting an increase in speed but a drastic reduction in bandwidth. 5GB a month does seem a little on the small side. I'm sure with 1Mb you could do more than 5GB in a day. |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I think but not sure that the limits are confirmed but the upload speed's are not confirmed, however because the rollout hasn't started yet ntl are still free to change it should they wish to do so with small hassle.
Personally I think ntl have got the limit's right on the bottom 2 tier's you shouldnt expect too much for 17.99 a month and 2mbit for 24.99 is outstanding value. |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Not another cap thread - pleeze!!!!
|
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
If it's confirmed then thats really poor. 5GB a MONTH is PATHETIC. That's 170MB a DAY. On 56k dialup I'm sure I managed more than that some days and it'd fly by on 1 Mbit.
I'm gonna either not pay for the upgrade and stick with what I've got at present (1gig a day cap), assuming I'm able to do that, or pay the extra for 2mbit and then be very careful I don't blow the lot in a week. OH YES, I forsee many many more cap threads if they go through with this 5GIG a month cap. |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Anyone complaining about the new caps:
1) NTL have not actually announced any new caps. All we have at the moment is rumours. 2) At the moment, if the cap does cause you problems, you have the option of moving to an uncapped ISP. |
