Sky to invest in new VM network?

Quote:

Sky is in talks over a potential investment in a new full fibre network to be built by Liberty Global that would substantially raise pressure on BT in the UK broadband market.

The discussions between Liberty Global and Sky over the new network are at an early stage, the people said. Sky is in separate talks over a wholesale deal to use Virgin Media’s existing cable network which covers half the country.

But as said, the story comes around every few years and nothing comes of it. Having their own network gives VM a major advantage over Sky and other competitors and I doubt they will relinquish that advantage any time soon.

I see the cable cos sold off by LG to Vodafone (which gets cleared soon by the European Commission) as the warm up act to come.

Why not?

Comcast is a cable company, by nature.

I predicted back in April that Sky and VM would get into bed with each other in some way and it looks like it's happening. Perhaps this move is a stepping stone to Comcast taking full control of VM and eventually offloading its satellite business, minus its 10 million customers which it will try and migrate over to cable/FTTP.

There is no chance of Comcast taking control of VM in a month of Sundays.

Comcast wouldn't be allowed to buy Virgin Media it would be a breach of competition rules. if they did they would be forced to sell Sky the same way BT was forced to sell their cable system back in the 90s when they took shares in Sky.

That was exactly what my thought process was about it.
