600mb tier rollout
Im wondering if anyone is on this or yet been offered the option?
Thanks. |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Not heard anyone on this yet, you would think VIP customers would get 1GB anyway as there isnt much extra cost to VM on this tier
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
500Mb to 600Mb doesn't require new kit or DOCSIS 3.1

But the point is that all customers currently on Ultimate Oomph with 500Mb will be able to get 600Mb without having to do anything to request it or change their setup. It'll be an automatic change. At some point in the future then a version of Ultimate Oomph probably will include a D3.1 tier of service, but not until the rollout is in most if not all of the network. |

To ensure that it is only when there is a good reason and not a waste, Hub 4 swaps for non Gig1 customers is by targeted invitation only. |

Re: 600mb tier rollout
From what I understand the Hub 4 is being targeted in areas where putting customers onto D3.1 does help with overall network performance, or will do when the area is D3.1 enabled.
Some customers may not see any change if they are as you say not heavy users, others should see an improvement, and there is general benefit for both customers in an area and for Virgin Media's ability to manage the network. |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
My SH3.0 is one of the original White ones thats how old it is.
Touch wood aslong as it works im happy. |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Same model of hub3 here alan, been good as gold but shame on the network being touchy.

1 Attachment(s)
My SH3 rebooted at 5.24pm today and when it came back it had upgraded to 690 down and 44 up.

Re: 600mb tier rollout
nice, it is funny to see that 600mbits is pretty much 700mbits.
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
i noticed in the postcode search its saying 600 in green but after rebooting my SH3 and doing a speedtest it is still the same speeds as normal.
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Customer Services can see M600 is available in my area, but can't select it as an option for my account. Is this typical, is there a way around this?
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
They can't select it yet. Currently only existing Ultimate Oomph customers are being upgraded to M600 where possible.
Any customer in an area that can't yet support M600 and all new Ultimate Oomph customers will still get M500 for now and be upgraded at a later date in line with the original promise: Quote:

Re: 600mb tier rollout
My internet just went off briefly, came back on and now getting 640 / 42 on speedtest. That's a nice surprise!

I'll stick with my 1Gb

Re: 600mb tier rollout
Got mine update a few days ago - kind of wish they hadn't bothered. Might just be coincidence but ever since the update was done, my connection has become inconsistent, download speed is slower than when I was on the 500 service and post RS errors and unstable upstream QAM results have become the norm.
Had someone out from Virgin who was going to monitor things but other than a reset of the Hub, they don't appear to have done much. |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
although i dont have the omph bundle i still have 500mb standalone, will this be part of the free upgrade to 600mb?
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
No. The upgrade is for Ultimate Oomph only.
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
I'm on Ultimate Oomph (500 Mbs) in London (21). Is this something I can look forward to in the near future?
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
You'll get an upgrade by 31st March 2021. You may get it earlier depending on the situation in your local area.

Just noticed I've had the 600 (690) upgrade in LE67.
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
A pleasant surprise. I've just done a speed test and find that I have been upgraded from 500 Mbs. The test gave me 666.07 (ominous number that) download and 42.59 Mbs upload speeds. I am in London (21 area).
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Can I ask what site people use to test their speed. I'm on 500 and if I use speedtest.net I always get a download figure of around 200-250 but if I use sam knows speed test its always around 550.

Re: 600mb tier rollout
My router has Speedtest built in, Samknows used to send me emails to confirm they were still looking into the problem but haven’t The Virgin engineer said he’d be happy if he could get high 200s. I’m getting low 200s.

My 500 only gives up to 230 at best so I doubt if 600 will make much difference. Unfortunately there is no alternative around here. |

Re: 600mb tier rollout
any upgrades planned for lower tiers ? 200mb and 100mb??
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
TBH I am surprised they haven't announced speed upgrades for the lower tier as VM have always done decent speed increases normally along side a price increase.

Re: 600mb tier rollout
About 2 months ago I had a call from VM saying as I've been with them for over 19 years I'm getting 500meg for free.
But nothing happened, so I call 150 thinking it was a scam call, but they couldn't help as I was the account hold nor knew the password, I mentioned a LPA, and they gave me another number, that was able to help, they said nothing had been entered into the system and flagged it as a possible scam. They told me to send the LPA to the Exec team, which I did. A month ago a woman there called me back and helped out and at the same time reduced our bill from £170 to £120, but when we got the bill yesterday it was the same amount. This morning I called 150 and the guy there sorted it out and upgraded us to the Ultimate Oomph, so I'm on 600meg, buy my laptop seems to top out at 230meg ish. So gaming PC will have to come sooner rather than later. |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Funnily enough i upgraded to 500mbits two days ago and got my bill reduced by £16/month. My pc is getting 550mbits and my phone maxes out at 430.
|
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Im on 500mb but there are times it dips below 430mb.

The engineer came out and said he’d be happy if he could get high 200s. He failed. My WiFi is consistent at 200-203 which is still a lot faster Thani can get elsewhere so it will have to do. I got a SamKnows whitebox which will show 160 to the router and 200 to my iPad - go figure! |

Re: 600mb tier rollout
My mate been upgraded to Ultimate oomph bundle but engineer been replaced brand new street cable and hub 4 and connect his Hub 4 to pc lan port with 2.5Gbps and his speed couldn't get over 350Meg (upstream are spot on was fine at 42Meg) as he asked me if he could bring his Hub 4 to my house and try my cable connected to see if it get 630Meg but I told him I don't have cable anymore (not sure if the cable feed are still active and live)
Can he try it at mine or I could be trouble if virgin media think I am using 630 Meg on my cable thinking I could be hacked it? Also can you advise my mate what is the power level should be on downstream from Hub 4? |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
I don't know why you are even bothering, everyone is just going to ignore you. For all the uninitiated newbies who are not familiar with you, this is their advanced warning.
Oh, and one last thing :english: |

Re: 600mb tier rollout
When I upgraded from 500 to 600 my WiFi speed went from 200 to about 275 on my netgear nighthawk router.
Just got my ASU’s RT-AX88U and am now getting >650 on WiFi. I’m happy with that |

I upgraded to 600 and consistently got 275 ish. Maybe it shouldn’t but the speed increase I was showing happened when I upgraded to 600 with no other changes at my end. |
Re: 600mb tier rollout
Be careful what you wish for…
With my netgear router I got a max of 275, but I live in a town house. My router is in the study on the ground floor, my lounge is on the first floor and bedroom on the second floor. With the netgear nighthawk I got 275 throughout the house. With my ultrafast ASU’s I get 655 in the study, 270ish in the lounge and in the bedroom? 150ish if I can get a connection. I think I’ll have to go back to the nighthawk. |
