A gunman has opened fire inside a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht, killing one person and injuring several others, reports say.

The area in the west of the city has been cordoned off by authorities, and emergency services are at the scene.

The gunman reportedly fled the scene by car. Police have asked people to stay away from the area and schools to keep their doors closed.

They say they are investigating a "possible terrorist motive".

From what I've been reading it is looking more like an "honour killing" the guy was shooting at a lady 1st then when people wanted to help her he shot them as well

3 dead and 5 wounded been keeping a beady eye on this 1 as have family working in Utrecht

Was in The Netherlands a few weeks ago, remember thinking what a peaceful happy country it seemed. NZ, seemed the same. It just takes a maniac and a gun, can happen anywhere. However the less guns around, and the more checks needed to get one, the better I'd suggest.
