It's not supposed to but does have a tiny effect in practice.

I hate to be pedantic but how much? Are we looking at 3-4dB?

Less than 1dB. Usually closer to 0.1

It depends really, as it should reduce it by enough to notice it but if it is a faulty attenuator then it could do.

I saw plenty of them when I was doing installs.

Are you having a problem or are you just wondering?

I am completing an online course and this was one of the questions. Believe it or not the instructor did not know the answer. Thanks for the feedback!

Just to correct slightly what I posted as I have just noticed a slight mistake with it.

It should read

"It depends really, as it shouldn't reduce it by enough to notice it but if it is a faulty attenuator then it could do."
