Radio stream not working can anyone help
For over a week now the radio stream on www.transmissionfm.com has not worked times out and get page cannot be found.
I can listen to other radio stream using the same port (8000) I can dialup and connect using the ISP freeuk.com and transmissionfm works fine so only appears a problem with ntl. I am aware of a dozen or so people throughout the country with the same problem. When I check using netstat the connection just sticks on SYN_SENT but never gets established! I mailed ntl who suggested removing firewalls, AV, routers etc....done all that even run it str into the cable modem but as above its NOT JUST ME...but ntl don't bloody listen!!!! I tried using different proxy servers but not joy.....can anyone help and how the hell do you get ntl to fix this problem??? |

Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
Works fine for me here in Stockport.
I get the page no problem and clicked on the MP3 link - launched Winamp and currently listening to a nice breaks mix. Try pasting this URL into the "add url" box in either Winamp or Media Player; http://stream.transmissionfm.com:8000/stream-128.mp3 or this which is the IP of the stream http://69.9.191.240:8000/stream-128.mp3 |
Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
Works fine in Burntwood, Staffs using a Powerbook.....hell I can't stopi it!!!!

Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
maybe you could start by posting some useful information...
pings to the server youre trying to contact, traceroutes to the server, even try telnet'ing to the port you would connect to , to listen.. might go some way to get people to help, rather than ranting about "bloody ntl", in the end, it might not be their problem. |

Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
hi,this is my first post (so please be gentle with me) . i'm afraid i can't offer any solutions to anyones problems mentioned earlier in this thread but i am suffering a similar problem myself .i'm completely stumped as to why i suddenly (ive been listening for 3 years ) cannot listen to my favourite internet radio station! i tried user spin's url and it worked perfectly for me (i am an ntl user) the station i listen to has recently changed servers and now has a different port 9194/9180 (it was 8000/8084 before) . i suspect the new port maybe the problem but have no idea how to establish that this is the problem and less idea to correct it. if anyone can help at all i'd be grateful.
the url for the stream i am trying to listen to is http://87.117.193.143:9180/ when i attempt to listen via winamp (as i always have) the stream connects but stops after 3 seconds on the high stream and 10 seconds on the low stream.its not a simple buffer ,it stops. another recent problem i am suffering is ridiculously slow download speeds on p2p programs ( something i use rarely but have noticed my download speeds are worse than i would get on dial up). i have a 2mb/4mb broadband connection. i am wondering if my listening to internet radio is being counted as a download and perhaps ntl are capping me? i was under the impression that my service wasnt capped. i expect you might need more information to help ,i really am at my wits end with trying to sort this out,its been a problem for about 3 weeks now . oh i should add that ive run spyware removal applications (and do regularly) and that ive tried to tune in with my firewall off and still couldnt. sorry if this is a ramble but i am running out of ideas. thanks in advance for any help ps. i'm in luton |

just tried a ping test(i think thats the term, please forgive my ignorance) for the route from me to that address and have attached a pic of the result
i should also add that i did speak to ntl tech support a couple of weeks back and spoke to an asian guy who i'm afraid i could barely understand. his 'advice' was to download firefox and tell him my dowload speed whilst it was downloading (after he directed me to a speed testing site that was no longer in use). this came out at quite a healthy speed and he indicated that it was my problem ,but he would kindly send me a a very informative e-mail to help with speed problems >>>>> Hi Further to our conversation earlier; here is the information I promised you: There are many issues that can affect broadband speed. This tutorial will help you to understand what speed you can expect and what steps you can take to resolve speed related problems including:
ntl Broadband is currently available in four service levels. Download and upload speeds can be measured in Kilobits per second (Kbps) or more commonly Kilobytes per second (KB/s). Package Download Speed Upload Speed ntl 512k Broadband Up to 512Kbps or 64KB/s Up to 64Kbps or 8KB/s ntl 1Mb Broadband Up to 1024Kbps or 128KB/s Up to 100Kbps or 12.5KB/s ntl 2Mb Broadband Up to 2048 Kbps or 256KB/s Up to 200Kbps or 25 KB/s ntl 10Mb Broadband Up to 10240Kbps or 1280 KB/s Up to 512Kbps or 64 KB/s Step 2 You can test your speed by downloading a file from a UK based site and check the transfer rate shown. Alternatively, various speed tests are widely available either from tests embedded in the website, or by using specifically downloadable tests designed for UK broadband connections, however please note that ntl does not endorse or offer technical support on any speed test sites or applications. If your speed is lower than expected, read the following sections and re-check your speed if required. Remember, your download speed is dependent on the speed the other computer or server that you are accessing can upload the data to your computer. Online Speed tests can also be misleading and it's important to repeat the test several times to get an accurate measurement. The first step when experiencing speed issues should be to reboot your broadband device by powering it off at the mains, wait approximately 30 seconds then power it back on again. Once the lights have stabilised the modem has been reset. This can often resolve many speed related problems. Step 3 Turn off file sharing programs (also known as Peer to Peer software or P2P) such as Kazaa, iMesh, eMule etc. This type of software can consume considerable amounts of your connection speed. Therefore, you will not be able to achieve an accurate measurement of your download/upload speed whilst it is running. If you are experiencing slow downloads using this type of software it could be related to the person you are downloading from having a slower connection than you. Step 4 If you are running a home network, connect your broadband device directly to one computer and recheck your speed to rule out local network problems. Step 5 By removing old files and increasing disk space you can often improve browsing speed by clearing your temporary Internet files. To do this from Internet Explorer, click on Tools then Internet Options, then click Delete files. Step 6 Available system resources can affect connection speeds. This is especially significant when using Universal Serial Bus (USB) as your broadband connection method. You may also have several USB devices (such as a mouse or keyboard), or unnecessary programs in the start up folder (programs that run automatically when your PC is started) which decrease the amount of system resources available. Increasing system resources or changing to an Ethernet connection (NIC) will resolve this problem. Step 7 Further help can be found online at:www.ntlworld.com/help Or via the FREE ntl Broadband support tool: http://www.ntlworld.com/help/broadbandmedic/ I hope the above answers your query, however, should you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again. Regards POONAM ntl Technical Support Bureau <<<< apologies if this email has been seen too many times on your forum. unfortunately i couldn't see any obvious cure for my ails in this e-mail as i had already tried all the suggested fixes before i called ntl. i do not use a wireless router ,i am not on a home network,i am connected via ethernet,i am on windows xp and i have been trawling the internet for clues to where the problem lies for weeks with no joy as yet . |
Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help

Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
Hi,thanks for the reply Chris.
I fear the stream being off offers no clue to my problem as it was on when i posted originally. The stream isnt 24/7 but if you try now i believe its just been put on. While i'm at it i should point out that i'm not alone in this issue,as a friend of mine (also on ntl but in scotland)is having exactly the same problem,to the point of his 'ping' stopping at the same ip = 212.250.14.86 (see my attachment in my previous post) thanks |
Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
stream is fine from here, why you would want to listen to it is a different question, but hey ho different people have different tastes...
The traceroute results are probably not relevant to this- the server is likely to be just ignoring icmp traffic, as i can listen to the stream, but a trace route and ping tests time out. which program are you trying to use to listen to the stream? I'm using itunes, and the following file loads fine and streams with no problems http://87.117.193.143:9180/listen.pls |
Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
Thanks for retrying it Chris.
I listen via winamp, i downloaded the latest winamp incase my previously trusty version 2.74 was at fault, but it didnt help. I get the stream but it just stops after 3 seconds on high and 10 seconds on low. |
Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
I see what you mean about the ping probably being ignored as its not the sort of traffic the server is looking for (so to speak).
I may be no further ahead in sorting this but ive learnt something at least. Thanks. |
Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help
