Azerus kills network...?

I'm running Azereus and whenever i use this program, internet bandwidth on my entire network drips off to zero for incoming traffic...

Why is this?

I can still talk to my other computers fine and Intranet bandwidth is not affected. Just the bandwidth coming in from Telewest.

What port settings or torrent client should i use?

Re: Azerus kills network...?

You need to limit your upload bandwidth as Azureus uploading is probably flooding your upload bandwidth and not enabling enough ACK packets to get through

Re: Azerus kills network...?

Limit your upload to no more than 75% of it's max.

Re: Azerus kills network...?

Sensible limits for capping your upstream bandwidth are:

for 128kbps upload; 10kb/sec max
for 256kbps upload; 25kb/sec max
for 384kbps upload; 40kb/sec max.

Re: Azerus kills network...?

Those arent they uploads for NTL tho.

1MBit = 100kbps
2MBit = 200kbps
3MBit = 300kbps
10MBit = 500kbps

I think this is still true for NTL.

hmm missed the fact the OP is on TW, sorry my mistake :)

Even so, there is no way I would set mine to 40K on a 384K upload - that's basically leaving you about 6k for anything else ......

Overnight its set to max.

Re: Azerus kills network...?

It all depends on whether they are quoting in Kilo Bits, or Kilo Bytes.

From what I can read, they are both quoting Kb (Kilo Bits) and not KB (Kilo Bytes) Which would still leave plenty of bandwidth.

You're reading it wrong, one is bytes, the other is bits.

To settle any confusion here.......

384Kb is indeed 48 KB

But Janipewter quoted using 40Kb which is only 5KB (approx) which would still leave you with 43KB of bandwidth.

Re: Azerus kills network...?

I suggested using 40kilobytes per second if you have a 384kilobits per second upload rate. I'm on the 256Kbps upload and I leave things capped to 25KB/sec up, leaving me with about 5KB/sec and it does me fine, nothing times out etc. :)

Ok then, but kilobytes should be written as KB and not Kb as you posted.

That's where the confusion is :)

Re: Azerus kills network...?

why even set it that high?

keithwalton 22-02-2006 15:19

Re: Azerus kills network...?

because with that type of program, the more you upload the more it lets you download

I posted kb not Kb, lower case in both letters also means kilobytes :)
