Transparent Proxy Question...
Ive been using the search feature and google now for a while but found nothing specific. I have a friend in the usa who is using rapidshare.de to upload pictures and small videos for the peeps hes knows here in sunny england to see. Im told the site is working fine except for yours truely. Haviing read the FAQ on the website and bits around this forum, I am putting my problem down to NTL's Transparent Proxy ? The IP rapidshare shows and my IP do differ so I hope I am right in saying the proxy is the problem.
Which brings me onto my question, is there anyway I can bypass this Transparent proxy ? I am using Firefox and managed to figure out how to change proxy's, but alas rapidshare shows different IP's to my correct one so I am assuming the proxys I have tried are all NTL transparent ones. For anyone wondering, an example of the error message would be the following. Code:
You (62.255.32.16) have requested 29868 KB in one hour. Want to download more?TIA Slyder |
Re: Transparent Proxy Question...
Write to rapidshare and ask them to write their IP detection code properly to see through the proxy.
Specify specific proxys and find one that has not been visiting the site. |

http_x_forwarded_for or http_client_ip Either of those will show the client IP from the ntl network. Very easy to implament in both Apache and Windows nased web servers. |

Re: Transparent Proxy Question...
Ethical questions aside, what's to stop you specifying a non-NTL proxy?
There are plenty of open public ones around to find and use. Including some operated by BT and Tiscali. Infact some browsers allow you to switch proxies at the click of a button. |
Re: Transparent Proxy Question...
I'd be interested in some public BT or Tiscali proxies please.
Do you have a url or list ? Thanks |

Re: Transparent Proxy Question...
Most proxies are unintentionally left open, so you may be piggybacking on a DSL or Cable connection somewhere, which would also generally mean it would be slow as your speed would be limited to the persons upload - also it is stealing their bandwidth and is not generally a good idea.
Thats why I asked for a url or list, I'd be interested in some legitimate public proxies if they are available, but I've never seen any that were meant to be open. |

Re: Transparent Proxy Question...
You can use something like Jap with no legal or ethical worries as their proxies are provided as a public service.

Moved to the *Proxy* Forum ;)

Its just another example of NTL's proxies causing problems that wouldn't affect about 98% of other ISPs' in the same way. It shouldn't be up to individual users to have to contact site owners to change their coding, virtually every other ISP works fine with Rapidshare, because they don't use proxies. |
