Alexa+ Early Access now in the UK
I just purchased the Show 11 and everything got updated to Alexa+ before it even arrived. You can register interest but if you buy a new device you get on it straight away
It did say my 2nd Echo Shows would not be part of it but they both are. The voice has changed and it is more conversational ---------- Post added at 18:18 ---------- Previous post was at 18:03 ---------- my main concern with this is it lists it as continuing free with Prime after the early access but as a single product for £19.99 so no one will pay that and just pay Prime but does this forbode a large Prime increase in the near future |

Not really interested in something thats "more conversational".
I dont chat to alexa, I mostly give it commands, sometimes ask a question. I suspect most of my devices would be too old as well. |
Re: Alexa+ Early Access now in the UK
The one feature I liked the idea of when I first heard of it was setting up automations and routines with the ai and I have tested it and it works nicely. I have a lot of smart tech and like playing
It is also going to be a lot more helpful and we will hear a lot less "Sorry I can not help you with that" and the like . As an information device Echos have been pretty pants and I favoured Google Home which is pants at Smart home. Hopefully this will mean I can sell off the Home Max |
Re: Alexa+ Early Access now in the UK
This statement from the marketing email put me right off - "Alexa+ uses interactions with you to personalise your experience. If you don’t want Alexa to know something about you, like sensitive personal information, please don’t share it."
On the other hand, I don't "converse" with Alexa, just use it to switch stuff on and off and as a "radio". It would be a very rare occasion that I ask a question. |
Re: Alexa+ Early Access now in the UK
I don't have any of that kind of stuff, but if I visit someone that does I can't help myself . .
"Hey Alexa/Ciri, how many major trophies have Watford won? " :naughty: |

Gotta sat after a few days of Alexa + I love it
Always like Alexa for Smart home control but now Alexa + makes it a really good information tool as well I asked it about dog dna tests cuz I want to find out what Wilson is cuz as we all know she is no part frenchie haha and Alexa went into so much detail about how it works and when asked how much and what you get in the range |

Re: Alexa+ Early Access now in the UK
Listening to a playlist on Alexa + and amazon music standard. Asked it to replay a song and it said that song is only available on Amazon music unlimited.
I said "how you were just playing it?" She said "arr it appears I can start the playlist but I can not restart individual songs in it. Makes about as much sense as a chocolate teapot." I love Alexa + |
Re: Alexa+ Early Access now in the UK
Yeah, Amazon’s lower tiers have always limited your ability to tell it exactly what you want to play. Spotify tried something similar on their free tier years ago but I think they abandoned it when they started haemorrhaging users.
The thing I found with Alexa years ago was once the conversational novelty wore off (you can only ask her to open the pod bay doors so many times), it really isn’t very clever at all. Just a voice-activated search engine with a few specific smart-home commands tagged on. In our house it’s mainly used as an intercom to summon kids for tea. I hope the ‘plus’ means more than upgraded conversation. It could really do with some proper AI, which standard Alexa definitely isn’t. |
