Get a hub upgrade on us. **Standalone Modems only**

Good time to replace your old standalone modems **Not everyone who need a kit swap will be eligible now, but will be contacted later on.**

Thanks for the information BenMcr

We want your internet experience with us to be the best it can be. So, as part of our FeelGood Summer,

That isn't a blanket option.

It's targeted to customers who have specific kit that needs to be replaced - these being the old standalone modems.

It's also a phased plan, so not everyone who need a kit swap will be eligible now, but will be contacted later on.

Have just had the free upgrade to 200Mb, got sent a recycled SH2ac so i thought i"d try for a SH3, followed the link but it tells me it can't find me on their system, maybe it's for SH1 users only. Never mind I'm happy with the SH2ac.

PS just seen BenMcr's reply, that explains it

Hardly a gift giving customers equipment that will actually deliver the service they pay for.

The customers being targeted have modems that are (mostly) appropriate for the speed they are on.

The offer of the Hub 3.0 doesn't come with a speed increase as most of the customers haven't opted in to any of the previous rounds of speed increases.

So it is purely an offer of new kit with no other changes.

Taking away which kit is better at the minute, why are people who don't need the Hub 3.0 being offered an upgrade to it yet people who are waiting or getting the 200Mb speed upgrade are getting sent out Superhub 2's. Seems like a backwards move. I understand that having everyone on the latest bit of kit is easier for Virgin, but you'd think that Hub 3 would be used for the top tiers and those who aren't going to take advantage of the speed upgrades sent the Superhub 2 or even 1 if they still use them. Seems like the more you pay the less you get sometimes.

If somebody's still on a modem they either just have a single PC or they have their own network and router. Either way SH1 or SH2 in modem mode would do the job surely?

Theres thousands of Ambit modem and other still out there. VM need to to get rid of these so they can start offering better speeds and VOC later on. Seems sensible to start the process now.

Agreed but sending out beta SH3's with all their attendant problems isn't the answer.

It is just VM digging themselves a hole again because they can't use common sense.

Considering the issues with shrub 3 modem mode it's best not to take the offer up.

the only consolation is that when docsis3.1 comes out next year we are going to be getting a docsis3.1 modem and not a docsis3.1 shub.

What makes you think that?

I have an excellent memory and i distinctly remember Igni saying it a few months ago when we were talking about docsis3.1 coming out and whether the shub could handle it. The conversation went something along the lines of 3.1 doesnt run on channels as we currently understand it, wont use a shub and we be a standalone modem service.
