Perhaps our footballers need to learn from our Olympics heroes as they have well and truly done this country proud in Rio.

You don't have to turn it into a negative. The Olympic team is an achievement on it's own.

Football is different, highly competitive and the players don't get relative peace and quiet in-between the major international competitions.

Its not a negative at all as the fact remains that our Olympians know how to win wherever our international footballers don't and if they could learn from our Olympians in quite a few different facets then they would do a awful lot better.

It's a pointless comparison. Football is far better funded across the world, it's far more competitive across the world. If Cycling was as popular as football and better funded in all those nations then we probably wouldn't be dominating it as much as we are. We've been very smart in how we target our investment and time when it comes to the Olympics.

We're doing great at the Olympics and that itself is an achievement. We don't need to use it to have a go at footballers. It's turning something optimistic and cheerful into something pessimistic and cynical. Footballers are the punching bag the UK population never gets tired of hitting.

We're not the best in the world at football, we may well be a cycling. Let's celebrate that.

Yes we should certainly be celebrating it that is for sure although one person l think should be praised all those years ago for making a decision which has had a great effect since on funding is Sir John Major.

Last night Team GB exceeded their medal count from 2012. The first nation to beat their home games in the following Olympics.

A astonishing achievement and it is nice that there will be parades in London and Manchester to celebrate it...

I was reading on the BBC that the largest haul of medals we ever had was 146 in 1908..I really should look into the history of the Olympics. It might be an interesting project.

Why is Frinton on Sea being excluded? I think the parade should be held there, they never get anything... :D

Exceeding the medal haul from London 2012 is a great achievement and another positive legacy of it. I'm certain there'll be countless young people who've been inspired to take up sport as a result of this.

Thanks Den! ;)

Just been doing a little analysis of the gold medal figures and it turns out that of the top 3 nations the UK currently has gold medals in 15 of the 19 sports listed. The US has golds in only 12 of the 19 categories and China only 10.

would it be fair to say that our success is a legacy from 2012 despite some people saying it was a waste of money and could not be justified
