£300K statue of Margaret Thatcher vetoed over 'handbag row'

http://www.itv.com/news/london/2016-...r-handbag-row/

I know that some members may think this may be bad. But l hope they never put a statue of Maggie up in London.

There is an argument over this statue, as there is no handbag on the Lady.

Why don't they stick it with the Lions in Trafalgar Square.

It will be sad, as l have a feeling that if it is placed in Parliament Square, it will get vandalised.

There must be thousands of people out there, who couldn't stand the woman :(

The mischievous side of me wants to see, but I ultimately have to agree - it would be needlessly divisive.

As much as I wouldn't want it it also doesn't really bother me or effect me in anyway.

She was the first female PM so that probably deserves some recognition.

Put it this way, l have said a few nasty things about her in the past. But some people despised the woman for what she did to this country.

But, putting a statue of her in London, is simply asking for trouble, IF, it is put up. Then l give it a week, before its vandalised

It wouldn't be me - l wouldn't waste my time on the thing

She was also the first PM of that time to grow a pair as well .... She deserves it for that alone in my humble opinion .. :):)

Yup, compared to most of what went before (and since) in my lifetime she was an outstanding leader even if some of her policies were very ill judged.

Much as I disliked a lot of what she did..at least she left the disabled alone.

Could've leant her your handbag, Arthur. It's not going to happen now so you can put it away.

I'm sure there're many who can't stand her but at least she's not a bedtime boogie man story told to misbehaving children in the Middle East, that status being reserved for Mr Blair.

Our first female Prime Miinister, elected for three terms. She is a historical figure, and certain left-leaning figures who still can't handle the fact that she kept winning while they kept losing, really do need to start getting over it.

I don't like her at all, but it's worth pointing out that not only did she win three times, but the other parties lost a lot of voters during that period.

Rumour has it that Maggie always carried a picture of Arthur in her handbag for inspiration. Arthur, you have a lot to answer for! :D

If the statue is paid for by personal donations, I see no problem. It's when the public purse is raided for such things that I get upset.
