Email (DNS) issue (ntlworld.com)

Had a strange problem today. I changed my routers dns settings yesterday and removed the only VM DNS server I had listed out of the three in my router. Many times I have had all 'none VM' dns servers.

Earlier today, after working for a while, my email clients stopped working for ntlworld.com email addresses and even logging in on-line resulted in a 'This webpage is not available message' when going to the email page. All password were correct.

Tonight the same issue existed and I called support. Other none VM email addresses worked OK, just VM failing. After a frustrating period with support I suddenly remembered my change yesterday and added the VM DNS again in my router and the problem went away. Can anyone throw any light on this? Is VM DNS now mandatory for email to work? I use superhub as modem only.

Re: Email DNS issue

VM definitely had DNS issues today, we got a buch of bouncebacks from e-mails sent to ntlworld.com addresses.

Quote:

<xxxxxx@ntlworld.com>: Host or domain name not found. Name service
error for name=ntlworld.com type=AAAA: Host not found
They seem to have stopped now.

E-mail still down for me at 5:50am. Also google image is sluggish and is missing lots of results. Not sure if this is the same dns issue ?

Ping fails to find pop or smtp ntlworld.com servers even if I add VM's DNS server to the allowed list.

Looks like the records are missing. Perhaps Virgin is dropping the ntlworld domains and moving everyone over to virginmedia.com?

Nice of them to give us the heads up if that's the case, pretty bad :(

I'm guessing all the homepage.ntlworld.com websites are down as well then! Such as this site's speedtest service

Err yeah, that would be a good idea.

Don't pratt with peoples email addresses - the second rule of IT, (after the switch it off and on rule).

homepage.ntlworld.com does seem to be down.

Of course, MyVM tells me I have no broadband problems ... D'you reckon anyone at VM has noticed there's a chunk missing?

Glasgow G72 - 11am

By the looks of things browsing is about to go down too. Pages are barely loading and i'm seeing 24kbps to 194kbps at best on a 150mbps line on speedtests.

Can't even get to virgins server status page...
