APP Download

My grandson used his HUDL to watch a childrens TV channel over my new Virgin super hub wifi. Not sure how he did this......he is 8 years old.

Anyway I got a bill for 60p for a downlaoded game which he admits he clicked on to get rid of the "pop-up"

I have made three attempts to talk to Virgin help lines about this. I have struggled with the stong scottish accents and the first lady cut me off and the second lady gave me a lecture about how my grandson should behave. The third recommended down loading a new programme F Secure which seems rather expensive.

Surely the wifi should have some sort of protection system...... my daughter says that her Sky one does.

My real concern is that my grandson and his 5 year old sister could spend a load of money...... how do I control it?

Help and advice please

Vic

If it was added to your Virgin bill then it's not the type of in-app purchase you can disable in the Hudl/android settings.

VM and Sky both have an area on their websites for customers to login and enable/disable site blocking but not sure if any of it will be helpful for this problem.

Might be possible to block the domain of their purchasing or advert server on the superhub but it might make some of their stuff stop working. Would also need to know those domains first too.

This isn't a VM issue, you need to set up your Hudl up correctly: http://ttselectrical.custhelp.com/ap...X0lDNVg2LWw%3D

Google Play Password

Google Play also allows you to set up password protection so that whenever you purchase any content from the Play Store, it will require you to enter your Google password. This will allow you to control spending via the Google Play Store and ensure that no-one using the Hudl can purchase anything without your approval. Password protection on Google Play will also protect purchases made within Apps for extra content such as new levels on games etc. These are known as Microtransactions and you can find more information about them please click here For instructions on how to set up password protection on Google Play, click here.

I don't see how you getting billed 60p is in any way "Virgin Media News"?

Sorry about this being under the wrong heading...... however I think it is a Virgin Media issue because they have taken my money by direct debit without my authorisation.

Spoke again to (this time) a very helpful member of the Virgin staff...... she said it cannot be anything to do with the HODL and that my grandson must have accessed the TIVO system...... not possible I said because he does not know the pass word to spend money. The small sum of money has been removed from by DD.

The issue is not Virgin Media, I do not see how they can be responsible for online purchases, that responsibility must be at the user end.

A good outcome but you are wrong about Virgin Media not being authorised to take the money.

Every direct debit is open-ended wrt how much is taken. All any company has to do is tell you if the amount they are going to take is different. That, of course, is via the bill which you received.

Re: APP Download

To figure out how to stop it happening again you'd have to figure out how the money was spent in the first place. If it was on the VM bill then it must have been something purchased via VM. Virgin Media doesn't provide carrier billing of 'apps' nor do they sell any AFAIK so downloading a game should not be able to levy any charges.

Not sure if the TV Anywhere app allows purchasing of premium content but it sounds more like that, that's the only thing I can think of that'd bill to the VM account.

Re: APP Download

TV Anywhere doesn't have anything. There are paid Games available on TiVo, which would appear on the bill, but the ones I've seen are higher priced than 60p

How is the 60p charged i.e it's not clear whether it's a call, text or whether it was the Media bill or a Virgin Mobile one?

Re: APP Download

It was listed separately as an interactive service charge (games, red button, voting)

Game - Cheese chase at 60p.

Thanks for your interest and moving the thread to the right part of the forum.

So in that case it was purchased on the TiVo and NOT on the HUDL.

If that were the case then how did my grandson figure out my TIVO password...... or does TIVO permit uncontrolled expenditure without password protection. I think not.

My grandson is clear that he accessed the game on his HUDL to get rid of the annoying "tag" interrupting his viewing.

Unless the game was via a Virgin Media app on the tablet how would it have access to your VM billing details?
