Windows 9 (codenamed ‘Threshold’) is planned for April 2015

Windows 9 (codenamed ‘Threshold’) will see a full return of the Start menu and is planned for release in April 2015.

To little time between versions. An OS lifetime should be around 5 years before they release a new one.
This 'Threshhold' should be another service pack if they can get it out for 2015

Indeed, i have been using windows 8.1 but only because i have startisback installed. I would not be using windows 8.1 if i had been forced to use the kiddie mobile phone interface

I just hope they don't drop the metro interface.

If the difference between it and win8 is as much as there was between Vista and Win7 then sooner is better in my book.

Hopefully we'll be able to grab it dirt cheap like you could with win8 right at the start.

Why they did not give users the option for you to be able to select the start button system or the metro system i will never know. I mean it cannot take the brains of an arch bishop to see that is the best option.

Microsoft always intended releases after a couple of years. XP was the exception

and lets be realistic Ubuntu for example churns them out as does Mac

You paid for some feature that you could have got for free?

Lets hope they actually use their brains this time before releasing it to the unsuspecting public.

8 isn't so bad - ok on a desktop it can be a bit odd but my OH bought herself a Windows 8 tablet for Christmas, I've had a play on it and to be honest I think it's pretty good. On a tablet that is...

As long as 9 still works well on tablets then I can't see a problem.

I hope they consign it to the deepest pit they can find.

Failing that, make it totally optional.

The only problem I've had with 8.1 is drivers, on my Asus USB-N53 wifi

I hope windows 9 costs £25 again for early adopters

I never had a problem with windows 8.1 and I never used the start screen and didn't bother installing a new start menu as it isn't needed. Saying that I do prefer the windows 7 base theme.
