Waitrose Customers complain coffee offer will 'attract chavs'

Most Middle class story ever:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...cts-Chavs.html

Quote:

Waitrose is facing a middle-class backlash after complaints that its stores are being invaded by less well-off shoppers.

Regular customers claim the supermarket's offer of free cups of tea and coffee in all its stores is attracting the wrong type of clientele.
:D

The story is actually about handing out free coffee to regular customers, and there are two quotes from twitterati complaining about that, not about 'chavs'.

Shock horror - Daily Mail puts negative slant on story to inflame emotions....

It is quite funny though.

'Please don't turn into a “soup kitchen” handing out free drinks,' she wrote on the store's Facebook page. 'The usual clientele of Waitrose are hardly strapped for cash.

Just wait until they find out that John Lewis card holders get a free tea or coffee and a cake once per month!

I have both cards. We shop in Waitrose about twice a month so does that make a me a chav?!

Of course it does not as usually on our way to a big discount store in Cornwall every couple of months we often pop into Waitrose to pick up a few things here or there.

They need to send Wayne and Waynetta there to claim their free coffees.

I think most of all this story illustrates how social meeja, Twitter in particular, gives a disproportionately loud voice to a very narrow stratum of the British upper-middle class.

It may be helpful if you were an accurate pedant... ;)

Could you point out where, in the OP DM article, either of the customers quoted mentioned chavs? (which was the point of my rebuttal, as the DM headline stated "Regular customers complain that free drink offer 'attracts too many chavs"). :)

this is incorrect it is for those who hold the card you do not have to be a regular customer so I corrected you. The rest of your post is irrelevant to me as is the fact you are incorrectly saying I am inaccurate ;)

It's good to see that the chavs have got some taste by shopping at Waitrose. A chav could have loads of money (lottery win for instance) but this will not stop them shopping were they like. A class divide still exists in this country and always will.

Excellent - so, the rest of the story (which is what the thread and the DM article were about) are irrelevant to you.

Sums you up, really....:D

Amusing, coming from you - thank you for cheering me up.

btw, you are absolutely right - people do not have to be regular customers to have a Waitrose Card.

Have a great day.
