Child Benefit: £1m A Week For Children Abroad
 
So you have to ask the question is this true and if it is WHY

This another reason we need to look at why we are being forced in to this by the EU

If this is true and we have to pay this because of the EU it makes me sick and is yet another reason i see for us getting to hell out of the EU.

Our money should go to our kids not some family in Poland for instance.

This is the reason people detest the EU and the rules they force on us.

l absolutely agree with you one 100% as this is just another thing where money is going abroad while some of our own struggle in poverty.

Money earned or received in this country, that is not spent in this country, just makes our situation worse.

If other EU countries can make sure that children must be resident, than the EU hasn't forced the rule upon the UK. Perhaps the UK should simply take appropriate steps as other countries have.

Sadly it's often our rules, practices and enforcement (or lack of) which is absurd. This ridiculous non resident CB thing has been going on for years and I've posted about it here before as it can amount to a hell of a lot of money in Poland and is bound to be open to abuse.

I recently saw a TV documentary in which a Nigerian guy in his late 20's/30's was picked up at Heathrow trying to get into the UK with a dodgy passport. When questioned he then started insisting he was 15 and that he'd fled Nigeria after his parents were killed by bandits. Despite the forged document and obvious lies about his age he was admitted into the 'care of social services' for age testing and a potential asylum claim whereupon he simply absconded. If it wasn't so absurdly predictable it'd be funny. The lunatics have taken over the asylum!...

Sorry, but it's not clear to me why other countries can arrange for child benefits to be paid only for resident children, and the UK can't. Is it the fact that the UK has compulsory NI contributions that sets it apart from other countries in this respect?

No the EU is the Asylum and we are forced to be part of it.

Sorry were not taking the moral high ground we are being stupid and not telling these people to **** off your not getting the benefit if your kids are not in this country. So i have yet another reason to add to my decision to get us out if we have a referendum. In or out i say ~OUT

You're preaching to the converted mate ,i know it's wrong and stupid ,it's the politicians that want to be all moral with our money and stick blindly to regs everyone else seems to be ignoring

Agreed, however if we just mind our own business and don't champion the reasons for leaving the EU then those with a vested interest in keeping us in will win.

I didn't think that CB was reliant NI contributions so it shouldn't be that, other than that i have no idea why we have to pay CB to other countries children ,there must be some obscure piece of EU legislation that says we must and presumably that same rule applies to all members ,it's just that other members may choose to ignore it for the idiocy it is .

Question ,are we the only EU country that has CB ?

I do think it's something to do with the compulsory nature of NI. And we're not the only country to have CB. In fact we're not the only country to pay CB on non-resident children: Germany, The Netherlands, Latvia and Czech Republic do so as well.
