Can Anyone Tell Me What This Little Box Is?

Ok, I am moving house and I have noticed that in the bedroom there is a little White Virgin Media Box with one wire coming out of it.

Does anyone know what this is for?

EDIT:

Found a Picture on Google (The First Box) :

Sounds like a extension socket for a extra set top box in order to get television in the room.

No, it may let you move the modem upstairs if preferred or get an extra set top box for the room, your choice.

Your picture never worked either but I expect it has a cable coming out from the base which is what I tried to post.

Ahh ok cool,

Will remove it from the room then.

I prefer TV with Sky and will keep the Modem Downstairs.

Thanks for the advice :)

I think jb66's concern is that by removing it, you will be left with an unterminated cable/port where that box used to connect to the rest of the system, thereby potentially degrading your connection. They have to be terminated properly, not just cut off.

Re: Can Anyone Tell Me What This Little Box Is?

The box is an isolator outlet for TV/Broadband.

As said, do not remove as it will allow signal noise to get onto the network because of the unterminated cable.. which will effect not only your service, but possibly your neighbours.

if you want to rip out, disconnect the other end of the cable from the isolator as well.. it will connect to either the omni box outside, or a splittter in another room.. follow the cable on the other side of that box to determine where.

Then terminate the open connection on the splitter with a 75 ohm terminator.

Beware though, this equipment is the property of Virgin Media, the cable and the isolator, and tampering with it could be deemed as criminal damage should any problems occur as a result of your tampering which effect your service and your neighbours and it is traced back to you.

Also, better to leave it alone, as you may decide you want to add VM services in that room at a later date
