Ownership of V+ Boxes?

Am i right in thinking that the V+ boxes are only rented off of Virgin?

If that is the case when I purchased my V+ boxes at £99 a pop and have to hand them back then surely I would be entitled to some money back?

Yes they still remain Virgin's property and you will get nothing back if you are leaving.

So what was my purchase fee of £99 for if Virgin own it?

If that was the case then I should be able to get Tivo for free!

That was an installation/activation fee. I seem to recall paying £75 myself a few years back, and that was a half-price offer.

Well thats Virgin's policy and it has been that policy for as long as l know and remember one thing if Virgin,s boxes break down they repair it free of charge where Sky after the first year you have to pay for your repairs or buy a warranty off them.

Phone up retentions and you might be able to get a deal on the Tivo.

If you leave the original £99 fee is non refundable as you paid that to get the box installed, I expect Ben will be able to add some more to this if he sees it.

It's an activation fee, or a warranty fee as I like to call it

You are not entitled to a refund, it was an up front rental fee.

It is you who has assumed that you have purchased the equipment. Nowhere on the Virgin Media website is purchase or buy or sell used. In fact, the website clearly states that the V+ remains the property of Virgin Media.

Unfortunately they do use "buy" - see http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles.html In big letters "Six months half price plus free installation with selected bundles. Buy any two get £30 off. Buy any three get £60 off." Click "Find out more" and you get "Buy online and get £xx off your first bill " depending on the bundle.

Like yourself I know it's rental have been with them long enough but I think the wording should be changed.

but does it say "buy a V+HD box" though? buying a bundle is totally different.

In fact on the TiVo bundles it says quite clearly: "£49.95 one-off
activation fee"

and in the T&C's "Equipment remains property of Virgin Media."
