France stops Italian 'migrant trains'

Quote:

Authorities in France temporarily blocked trains from Italy in an attempt to stop north African migrants from entering the country.

Trains were stopped at the border for hours - prompting Italy to launch an official complaint with France. Services were later resumed.

Italy has angered France by giving temporary resident permits to thousands of Tunisian migrants.

No doubt the Italians gave these people temporary permits hoping they'd go somewhere else to order to pursue their longer term aims. I wonder why?...

What's the betting the French authorities are, as we speak, considering laying on free high speed trains to the UK for anyone who wants to claim asylum?.....

Wouldn't that make him an immigrant?

They certainly have a well-developed sense of national interest and are not afraid to put it first, sometimes in spite of any obligations they might have to the contrary.

For once, Gary, I agree with you. :D

That's because they say yes to everything that will get them what they want from the EU knowing full well that any rules they don't like they will just ignore them. They are not alone either as several of our fellow EU members say yes whilst keeping their fingers crossed behind their backs. In some ways they are better politicians than us.

Only we plough a narrow lonely furrow in which we believe that every daft rule from Brussels must be implemented no matter what.

Yeah like when they pulled out of NATO - knowing full well that they had the protection of the surrounding NATO countries in that they could sell arms to all anyone they liked without redress, E.g. the exocet missle that sank one of our ships during the Falklands conflict.

Guess they've never forgiven us for the embarrasment at Agincourt!

Si thee :Sprint:

To be fair, the French were absolutely mortified at that and gave the British armed forces all manner of secret technical assistance to help defeat what they had sold to Argentina (including sending aircraft for the RAF to practice dogfighting against).

Thankfully we Brits would never sell weapons to dubious governments.

well if the EU would give Ireland money for the immigrants they would gladly take them on... or perhaps Portugal :) saying that Tunisia is kinda safe again for now so why not go back home.
