No sound with VGA cable
Hi there. I just bought a VGA cable to connect my laptop to my television but don't seem to be getting any sound through it although I get a nice clear picture. Anyone any ideas? Do you even ge sound through a VGA cable?

Re: No sound with VGA cable
VGA cables do not transmit sound. Just graphics.
You will need a cable going from your laptops headphone jack into either the back of your hifi (Any of the line in or CD, or Aux ports) or an auxilary sound input on the TV if there is one. |
Re: No sound with VGA cable
Thanks for the quick reply, is there a name for this particular cable? So I know what to ask for

Re: No sound with VGA cable
The cable you need will depend on the inputs on your TV, what make/ model is it?

Re: No sound with VGA cable
If connecting to an amplifier or a hifi with auxilary left and right phono inputs you would need this cable:

Re: No sound with VGA cable
It's a samsung 42" about a year old. It has a little headphone socket at the back of it same as the one on the laptop. So i think I just need a double ended lead ( same end connection on each end)

Yea that's the one I think I need. If 3.5mm is the standard earphone jack Size then I will need to get myself one of those. Cheers for the advice

Re: No sound with VGA cable

Re: No sound with VGA cable
The laptop is about 4 years old. I don't see any hdmi sockets. I'll just have to buy one of those jack thingys

Re: No sound with VGA cable
You could just plug some PC speakers into the laptops headphone jack

Re: No sound with VGA cable
Hook it up to your hifi if you have an amplifier. It will sound great.
