How to clean my Memory Modules (RAM) ?
Hi everyone,
Merry Christmas !! Hope that the holidays are going well for you.... I was wondering how to clean my ram by cleaning it with a software ? {not taking it out and cleaning them physically!!}:erm: I have had no solution to my vlc player getting stuck when I open firefox windows but at a guess I think its the less memory. The memory I have on the computer is 1.24GB.(One is a 1GB stick and the other is 256 MB). Please advise further Many thanks |
Re: How to clean my Memory Modules (RAM) ?
ram is volatile memory and flushes itself when you turn the system up. Do you mean a method of freeing up memory ? there are software option but they are poop as a rule
First thing I would do is run msconfig and stop pretty much everything bar security ( ensure wireless options and track pad if its a laptop are left running) this will stop a lot of programs using ram when the pc starts |

What OS are you running and what kind of quality is the video?

I would consider swapping out the 256MB simm for a 1GB stick :)

No need to clean you RAM..
RAM means random access memory and does not store any information when the pc is not in use. When you turn pc off all data is gone. Personaly i would start by giving the pc a right good clean out of unwanted/unused programs and files and a reinstall of your vlc player.. And then check for spy/addware and a virus check. Also as martyh said it does seem to be an odd combo of ram but if it has been working b4 then we could leave that aside for now.. Try what i sugested see if it helps... Hope you get it sorted.... |

Re: How to clean my Memory Modules (RAM) ?
cheers guys for the responses...
It came with 2 256MB sticks and I happen to have a 1GB ddr stick so I put it in and took one of the 256 out and thats why its an odd combo. My video quality is good and seems to run ok. I am using XP sp3. I have tried uninstalling VLC and then re-installing it but still the same situation.I have also tried reinstalling firefox but same results.... I will have to try the hoover and other suggestions... thanks guys |

A soft clean brush to dislodge any dust is safe and you can safely hoover up the residue from the bottom of the case. That should be plenty of ram to run VLC or Firefox, unless it's all getting taken up by autorunning programs that load at startup. |

Sucking up dust can generate small amounts of static, although you have to suck up an awful lot, very quickly to notice it. I have to keep myself earthed whenever I vacuum out our wood stove, otherwise an accidental brush against the metal part of it can give me quite a jolt.
Having said that, I don't imagine the inside of a PC ever gets that dirty. :D |
