Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi all - I have been watching a number of HD channels of late, especially BBC HD. I have noticed for the past three or four days that the sound has been out of synch with the picture.
I have adjusted my surround systems A/V synch which just makes it worse. Other HD channels are fine. My questions are. 1. is the problem with the BBC again? This has happend before (Strictly Dancing) admitted by BBC on their blog. 2. Is it a problem caused in some way by Virgin? Maybe locally in CM17 3. Is it my surround system? It is making BBCHD unwatchable at the moment. Any thoughts mdancer |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi - got distracted at home so only able to post now. Hopping between BBCHD and Discovery HD, there was no comparison, Discovery was perfect. Seems like it could be a BBC problem, although not yet conclusive. If it is, it is not good enough. If you Google "Audio out of sync on BBCHD" it throws up a significant number of hits over the last few years.
Not sure where to go with the problem. If it is effecting other Virgin customers (anyone out there with the same problem?) then Virgin should approach the BBC technical team......... mdancer |

It has happened whilst I've been watching over the last few days prior to last night when I monitored it for a while. |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Thanks for your help DF. Will check it out tonight. I am surprised that I am the only one to notice this (or is it just my ears:()

Thanks... I'm gonna monitor later tonight. I'm thinking it is a BBC issue, but we'll see.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi - Just watching Springwatch on BBHD, and in my opinion it is out of synch. It seems to be that the picture and sounds are running at different speeds, so briefly they are in sync then drift out, if that makes sense.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Just tried it on Springwatch. It may be very slightly out but by such a small amount it does not bother me.
I note that, according to my amplifier, this programme is in 5.1 (not many are). I have my V+ connected by digital cable to quite an old Yamaha amplifier and then on to 5 speakers and a subwoofer. It works very well. One thing I have noticed on BBC HD ever since it launched is that the announcer between programmes comes over with an echo to my set up. I have been told this is because the voice transmits to both the centre and two front speakers. I have tried adjusting the front speaker time delay but it makes no difference. If you are using a digital sound cable from V+ to amplifier, I assume your TV sound is turned off and HDMI audio override on V+ settings is ON. |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I've passed the issue to National Outage Desk to look in to as I've not had time this evening. They are going to monitor it for a while.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi - thank you DF for your attention on this matter.
Oliver 1948 I am certain my settings on my Sony surround stand are set up okay, the sound to the tv switches off automatically when the stand is on, connections are by HDMI. V+ is set up okay. I to get the booming announcers voice on BBCHD...strange set up from the BBC. Looking forward to hearing if there is a solution to this. mdancer |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I just got my HDV+ box installed yesterday and its happening on BBC, ITV, Channel 4 HD channels but not Living, Discovery. Very strange but to be honest can't watch it because it is out of sync. Looking forward to a solution to this - soon !
