email change advised from virgin?
Got an email from virgin this morning telling me to click for Email Outlook express update.
What are virgin upto? Is there some hidden agenda buried in this kind of patch, perhaps its lets virgin know what you are getting in attachments? Never trust changes without full disclosure of what is in the update. Mind you I havent been getting mail notifications from a few forums I take part in using O/E, is this what it is all about? |
Re: email change advised from virgin?
If you are a Blueyonder account holder you will have received an emaail similar to the link below advising you to change the port numbers or use the tool, if you do not change the port numbers then very shortly your email will stop working, your choice.

You can make this change yourself, you don't need the program if you're comfortable with altering the settings yourself. |

Can you copy the text of the email please, plus any links that are in there?

If you are feeling this paranoid about the migration then try another email provider such as http://www.gmx.com/ or get your own domain for a few pounds a year. |

It's like saying your not going to update windows with latest patches just in case Microsoft slip something in to spy on you email, or let them know the contents of the documents and spreadsheets. <Wanders off to get my tin foil hat> |

Re: email change advised from virgin?
I tried to run the utility that Virgin provided and it hung my PC up.
Then I used the manual settings, changed the Port numbers and used my full email address for logging on and couldn't connect to email at all. Has anyone else with a blueyonder account had a problem? I've changed the settings back and am OK for now, but obviously I will need to change them before the platforms change for good. Peter |

You can argue that you should download files from legit websites, and you should. However criminals are very good at making their emails, and even websites *look* like they are from the company and therefore appear legit. It doesn't help when certain companies (e.g. PayPal) advise users not to click account links in any emails while happily providing account links in emails. |
