Villagers fight back

.......against Bank Holiday invasion of travellers
Quote:

A group of villagers blockaded country lanes and formed a human barricade to stop travellers taking advantage of the Bank Holiday weekend to build a caravan site near their homes.......Gipsies in the past have used Bank Holidays to tarmac over fields because they know they have an extra day before council planning officers are back at their desks to halt development.....Gipsies used the May Bank Holiday last year to pave over green belt land near Newent, Glos, one of the prettiest towns in the Forest of Dean.

The previous year, another group did the same Shipston-on-Stour in Warwickshire

“We don't want them here, it is as simple as that,“

I'd be most interested to know if any of these illegal sites are paying council tax and bills for their services.

The local 'authorities' don't seem to have the cojones to boot them off, so I wonder if they have the courage to make the same charges that they demand from us legal residents.

These people are **** and we let them walk all over us, we should put them on a remote island with as much tarmac as they could want.

we don't have too much of a problem up here in newcastle apart from 2 weeks once a year when the Town Moor fair comes to town which strangely enough seems to coincide with a jump in the crime rates

would these be classed as travellers ?

The majority of travellers are fine. We have a large number in this area which also has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. However even our local lot would turn their noses up at tinkers (their classification). Problem is there are not enough pitches available for the number of travellers in the right area. You need separate areas for different clans or trouble is guaranteed. One of our wealthiest villages has several privately owned pitches and no trouble. The problem is with a few trouble makers and then unfairly tarring them all with the same brush.

This village has done the right thing - for them. The right thing for everyone, is more pitches in the right areas where some control can be gained. The nimbys are in many cases making things worse rather than better .

You should have seen the mess they left behind them when they left a car park behind where i used to work. It took the council days and cost council tax payers a fortune.

Sounds like a job for the NuLabor thought police. Definitely racist, discriminatory or judgmental.. Oh how I'd love to see them tackle that hot potato.

easy ,pull a few council houses down in the name of "area regeneration" and give them the land

Good on the villagers. I just hope the travellers don't turn violent or the villagers suffer extra crime in retribution.

They install utilities... hrmm... I would suspect 'steal' is a better word given that only utilities companies can actually install them.

Needs a change in the law if the police can't stop it. Ridiculous the suggestion that they can go onto land they don't own and tarmac it like this. I refuse to believe it's legal for them to tap the electricity and water supplies like this. If it is legal it's crazy.

Interesting that you seem to think you know the right thing for everyone.

Being travellers surely they can travel? I would have thought that if they can afford to come into an area with heavy machinery, attack the countryside and steal utilities they can afford to rent pitches where they are available.

If there are none available where they want to be they'll have to do what the rest of us do if we can't live where we want to and go somewhere else. It's not society's job to accommodate the need for 'clans' to live apart and again it doesn't excuse their actions. I can't just start building a house somewhere because I want to live there.

One rule for one and one for others isn't acceptable, but it's what you are suggesting, that society shape itself around their wants and desires. Doesn't work that way. This ignoring that what they are trying to do is quite simply illegal.

The scenario you describe seems to work only for travellers, where everyone else puts themselves out for their benefit and to cater to their needs.

I agree ,why should LA's have to build sites for travellers anyway ,the money for this would no doubt be taken from council tax budgets and do they pay to stay on these sites ?

The villagers will regret this when they're left with no pegs to hang out their clothes.;)
