SSDs
Hi,
Probably one for that chap who frequents around here.. ;-) Anybody here got a SATA SSD? Any issues with mounting in a case with rails? My case is an Antec One P160 with the rails in drive bays. Cheers Lee |
Re: SSDs
No reason why not at all, in fact a case with rails is probably a lot cooler than in a laptop

Re: SSDs
Very dependant on the case, but nothing a small drill wouldn't fix (just remove all components first as metal fragments tend to play havoc with electronics ;)

Re: SSDs
 well done, a solution that not only doesn't adhere greatly to metal but will also act as an insulator :D

Re: SSDs
there are adapters avalable you slot the SSD in and then it just fits as normal

Re: SSDs
they may well fit in the floppy drive space also(if your case has them of course lol)

Yeah it has - but I think it's taken up by one of those floppy drive things... I must be the only person who still has a floppy drive installed! |
Re: SSDs
I have them here but only fish em out if I need a boot driver for older sata chipsets and XP lol oh and the odd AWFLASH but thats often done through bios now

Re: SSDs
I've just installed a OCZ Vertex 2 50Gb SSD as my boot drive along with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium. Now to install all my programs again. Thanks be for MozBackup which made the Firefox reinstall painless. The Win 7 performance score has gone up from 5.5 to 6.5, it's now the CPU which is the slowest item, the hard drive performance went from 5.2 to 7.4. - SSD bought from Aria http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...roductId=40038

Re: SSDs
you did install to another drive and then clone it over didnt you and not just install to the ssd?

Re: SSDs
i know if you buy a corsair nova series ssd you get a adpator so that you can mount it in a 3.5inch drive space.
my corsair obsidian 800d has hotswap bays on the front of the case and it mounts on to the hdd holder and then slides in, and doesn't require the adaptor but if the drive doesn't come with a adaptor then you can buy them for about £5 or so. when i installed my ssd my win 7 score for the hdd went from 5.4 to 7.5 iirc. best bet if you get a ssd is to install on a normal sata drive then clone it to the ssd to, maintain the drives performance rather than loosing it because of the small writes that happen when you install windows and prog's. |
Re: SSDs
That can't be right surely? I get a windows 7 performance score of 7.5 on a standard sata II drive.
Or are there other factors that decide the performance score? |
