Record Labels, they rip off the artists as much as they rip off their fans.

Their insatiable greed knows no bounds.

But nevermind, their star is firmly in the descendancy.

I doubt many will mourn their passing when it occurs.

who would want to split up something like Darkside of the Moon anyway its a classic. If you listen to it under the influence of certain substances it takes you on a journey and even brings you back to earth to turn the LP over ( not that anyone does that anymore lol )

In a way I agree with Pink Floyd here, their albums tell a story, listening to 1 track is fine but it's not how it's intended, those that would just buy a single track I'd say is missing out of the purpose of the whole album.

Not all artists are the same obviously, most artists are killed off by radio play and the digital age of downloads where you do only get 2-3 good tracks on an album, their track listing doesn't mean much so yeah I agree also that we do have a right of freedom of choice.

I've been a Floyd fan since the early 80's, went to see them a few times post Roger Waters but I think they're being fickle here. Singles are a cheap way of sampling the album and they help to increase their reach. Sure some albums are complete pieces but most of their albums have songs that can be adequately listened to in single form; A Collection of Great Dance Songs highlights that very well.

No they are not they are standing up for themselves. The contract clearly states creative control. They obviously knew what they were doing and what they wanted. Ok they didnt foresee digital media or the net but how could they? they did however lock the contract pretty tight and EMI are just trying to find ways around.

You have to ask yourself who is the greater the performer or the record label I know they both need each other but with out performers the record label will be skint but the performer can still earn without the label

Good on them for sticking it to EMI!

Nice to see a band stand up for their rights as a lot of bands I work with have similar contracts but refuse to stand up for their rights in fear of what their label will do to them.

As were on a Pink Floyd topic I have to say I have never heard anything by them really (except the odd snippets/covers) so any recommendations of an album to get by them?

Dark side of the moon is regarded as 'the' classic Pink Floyd Album but i prefer The Wall

The older stuff you might find a bit wierd so really after Sid Barret left and after they tried the same take with Ummagumma so after then. Actually its so hard to pick whats best as they are all good
