Belkin F5D8231uk4 working but not working!?
First time poster and in desperate need of some help if you please.
I have purchased second hand the following router... http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa...duct_Id=275346 I plug it up via my Virgin modem and wire to my PC and I DO GET INTERNET but yet on the router the following L.E.D's Wireless, Wired, Internet & Modem are constantly flashing amber and the L.E.D Router constantly flashes blue. I have attempted accessing the mainframe by typing the routers IP address (192.168.2.1) into IE with no success and have also attempted a HARD RESET by the back with no success. Looking around on some forums it seems like its a firmware update that has gone wrong. In most cases people say the router is bricked but if that is so then why do I get internet connection when I'm wired in? I have looked into trying to access the router via command prompt and using 'telnet' (yes I have activated it in Windows 7) but don't really know what to do or how to go about it so any suggestions would be great. Surely there must be a way of flashing the corrupt firmware out and reinstalling new firmware in? Thankyou to everyone and anyone who takes the time to read this and even better with a reply :P |
Re: Belkin F5D8231uk4 working but not working!?
Try this:
- Connect the computer to the router and disconnect the modem from the router. - Take a paper clip and press the reset button of the router for 60 seconds: - While holding reset button, after 20 seconds unplug the power cable of the router. - Wait for 20 seconds and plug it back. - And wait for 20 more seconds then release the reset button. - Once you have done this process go back to the computer and check the IP address whether it is in the range of 192.168.2.x. - If yes connect back the modem to the router and follow the steps for the configuration. - Log on to the router web interface at http://192.168.2.1 - By default, the password should be blank. ---------- Post added at 17:53 ---------- Previous post was at 17:43 ---------- Another option is to try and tftp upload a new firmware although I'm not 100% sue this router can take it - worth a try. 1. Enable TFTP (Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Windows Features -> check mark: TFTP Client) 2. Constant ping the router in a dos window: ping -t 192.168.2.1 2. get responses: 64 bytes from 192.168.2.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=2.90 ms (note ttl is 64) 3. reboot router 4. get responses: 64 bytes from 192.168.2.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=128 time=2.90 ms (note ttl is 128 - this should be the bootloader starting. will go to 64 later) 5. you need to run a tftp when your at bootloader - ie as soon as you see ttl=128: 'tftp -i 192.168.2.1 put <firmware>' 6. don't reboot the router for a while - be patient! Good luck! |

Re: Belkin F5D8231uk4 working but not working!?
I have the same router and its great and your still under guarentee with Belkin.
To change any settings you have to be wired up to it. Get a spare ethernet cable and plug one end into spare port, not the yellow one. Connect the other to the ethernet port on your computer. Go into your browser and type 192.168.2.1/ hit return. Your now inside your router. Click submit button. Hopefully its previous owner would not have set a password. If they have your going to need it asap. Once past page 1 it "should" automatically check for new updates,if not click the update link at the bottom lft of the page. If you can access the net open a new page in your browser and google belkin support. Go to Network products and enter your model number and follow instructions. You can then go back and forth to your router to set anything required. Let us know what happened. |
