Installation Engineer required

Hi All,

I need to reconnect my old virgin box and use as a freeview box.
Anyone know about any engineers I can call on privately in the Essex area?

Thank you

Why don't you ring up and get VM to install it, shouldn't be to pricey??

Do you have any VM services? If you have a VM telephone then you can go on the FREE tv pack.... give 'em a call on 150 to reconnect.

If you are not a subscriber anymore then you will only get BBC1-Ch5 and maybe a couple of other BBC channels

Thanks all for your contributions.

I currently don't have any services and will need to do this without virgin media except it's possible to book an engineer through them without subscribing.

You are not permitted to connect any equipment to the Virgin Media cable network without a valid subscription.

Sorry... no subscription...no services... VM will not connect that box without a valid subsciption.

So basically your trying to obtain the service in an inapropriate manner??

Your looking for the local dodgepot to connect your service.

Let's get a sense of perspective here - the man isn't trying to steal cable, he's asking if he can use an unsubscribed box to receive channels that are already free-to-view.

As it happens, that's not possible, but let's not crucify him for wanting to connect unsubscribed equipment when it's no more serious than attaching your telly direct to the cable to get the free analogue channels, or altering your cable lengths with DIY equipment ... neither of which are allowed by VM's T&Cs, but both of which are regularly encouraged and explained on this forum.

Don't think it's quite like that though, he dosen't want to involve VM to have this installed. You can get the freeview option via VM if you have the phone line as well, but obviously he dosen't want this either,(please correct me on that one of course). So it would seem to me, he wants someone to install a stb without subscription, without a phone line, without VM knowing on the side so he dosen't pay for ANYTHING AT ALL except the guy he want to do it for him.

So all he has to do, ring VM get phone installed, get the freeview option as well, pays for phone line and calls, dosen't pay a subscription..everyone is happy.

Call me cynical but....

My position is I have my broadband with Pipex (requires a BT line) as I use 8 blocks of static IP addresses (virgin media do not issue static addresses). I already have virgin media connections (boxes) in my house as I was a subscriber for 3 years but just need them relocated. Why am I being persecuted? Yes, I can easily ask for any of there packages but I don't buy want I don't need. No, I'm not a free loader!!!

Perhaps it is time for the moderators of this forum to stop the encouragement of this practice.

IMHO the OP is knowingly trying to connect equipment to receive a subscription service free of charge.

As you appear to be no longer a subscriber then it is very unlikely that any engineer will move the boxes for you as you would either be unable to receive any signal or possibly just the 5 terrestrial channels.

You would be better employed purchasing yourself some freeview boxes as you would receive more channels and probably be more cost effective.

Your opinion is noted - as is the fact that it flies in the face of the OP's clearly stated intention. He can hardly be trying to get a 'subscription service free of charge' when he has stated that he is only interested in viewing those channels that are free anyway.

And no, I don't think we will be stopping the practice of telling people how to alter the cabling in their own homes any time soon. It's not illegal. If there's a contract between the householder and VM then it may breach that contract, but even that is merely a civil matter between the subscriber and VM.
