Been Offered a Deal by Virgin today...

Good Evening,

This afternoon my parents had a phone call from Virgin Media around half past 3 this afternoon. (I wasn't there due to work).

Bascially it's a long story but here goes. Before was on NTL, had Cable Phone Broadband etc. Then a few years ago i switched to Sky as i got frustrated with the lack of features on there at the time i.e. no red button for instance.

I currently still use Broadband and Phone from Virgin, 10mb Broadband and Phone M Package

Now someone called Chris rang from Virgin to offer us money off the phone bill, 10mb Broadband (which i already have) and interestingly a 'free' Virgin Cable Box that they were told i can plug in to a different TV in my house i.e. Upstairs as i have Sky HD downstairs. So in effect a bit like Freeview

The TV Offer was 100 Channels which after Prior Investigation is the L Package.

My Parents agreed in the end and the Box is being dispatched to my house on Wednesday.

One Question, has anyone (a current Virgin Media Customer for years) been offered a similar deal?

Always read the small print and the terms and conditions before you sign a contract.

Fair enough Frazzel, but the point is my parents were told that the box would be dispatched to my house by Wednesday. Now if this is the case is it just plugging it in to another TV in my house and it'll work i.e. bit like freeview with a power cable and a Scart Lead Connection

Totally confused

It will have to be connected to the incoming Virginmedia feed so it should include a fitting kit.

No you'll get a splitter which will require connecting to the junction box where the cable enters the house
cable into box - scart from box to TV

Apart from having to now cable to upstairs (since you have Sky downstairs i cannot see you wanting to replace it with this), will this effectively start you on a new 12 months contract since i believe you will also have to keep the service for 12 months and it is only free if you keep the other services.

Also has fireman says mak sure you read the T&Cs and that if you are getting a free upgrade like L for 2 months it doesn't continue automatically if you do not want to continue receiving it. Also i can forsee more calls from Virgin now probably enquring how the new box is and wouldn't it be better to have more channels on it and they probably will have a wonderful deal sorted out since your parents agreed to take the box they may now be seen as a "soft" target.

Sorry for been downbeat but with all companies there is usually a reason for "free" gifts especially when you do not ask for them ie foot in door, getting your info.

I got offered L Broadband, XL TV, M Phone with a free V+ box free for two months and then £45 a month with free installation. Naturally I bit their hand off, all under a 'Sky Switcher' offer.

Thats the standard package any new customer can get at the moment on the web the "free" V+ box is actually £11 a month as the package is £34 a month without it.

You have mis-understood. The £11 'extra' is for the Phone M not the V+.

Nope go to the web and check it out without the V+ box L,XL and M is £34 a month The V+ box adds an extra £11 has they spread it over 12 months rather than pay the one of fee of £75 (you do save £3 though)

You're plain wrong. The price for BB L, TV XL and Phone M is £34 +£11 for the Phone M, independent of whether your STB is a V or V+.

You can see that here:

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...e-builder.html

Ticking the V+ box makes no difference.

You are proving yourself wrong select BBL XLTV and M phone without ticking the V+ box and the cost underneath says £34. Tick the V+ box and it rises to £45

My apologies honestly it has changed within the last minute "maybe a caching problem from me" i was definately getting an extra £11 when i selected the V+ box

I beg to differ. The bundle builder linked above shows the price as £34 plus the £11 for the phoneline with and without the V+ box ticked.

If that is not what you are seeing then I apologise but my understanding is, I believe, correct.

Anyone else like to comment?

Not when I do it it does not. V+ is free with TV XL. Remember to add £11 to these prices for a phone line.

BB L, TV XL, phone M, V+ box 34 pounds + 11 pomds phone line. Free installation but one off 75 pounds for V+
