Today's the day..........

..... for my install.
Must admit i'm getting rather excited too. Wife took the confirmation call yesterday, and it seems we're getting the Samsung box :D

Can someone post any links to general setting up etc please.

Shouldn't be any need, the installer should do it all for you :)

Hope it all goes OK :tu:

Went for 1080 wide and hdmi audio thing off (or on which ever way it's supposed to be for optical out).

Any other tips?

Tip 1: Take it off wide.

Seriously don't understand why people would want to use the wide settings, you just end up stretching content to fill the screen and making everyone fat.

With HD you'll have to get used to 4:3 having black bars at the side anyway.

Oh TheDon I would rather have it on wide than not, I prefer taking advantage of my full TV screen. I'm used to it anyway as before I had the V+ box it had always been stretched to full screen size when viewing 4:3 programmes :)

Re: Today's the day..........

Best get unused to it as the more HD channels the less stretching of 4:3 as the black bars are part of the signal then!

I really don't see the logic in the "taking advantage of my full TV screen" argument. You take advantage by distorting a picture? Would you pay to go into a cinema and have the screen half the height it should be? So you're watching the latest holywood blockbuster with fat midget clones of the real actors? I bet you'd be asking for a refund!

Stretching content to fill the screen would be like the Louvre going "we've got the mona lisa in the middle of that wall... but if we stretched it sidewards it'd fill the wall!" the voice of reason would pop up and go "but, that'd distort the picture!" only to be silenced by the gallery director claim "I prefere taking advantage of my full wall space!"

Maybe I'm different in that I actually like to watch what was actually intended, and not some distorted version with supersized actors. My brain just doesn't let me watch something where round things are no longer round.
