So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
As i have already been promised a 5870X2 when they are released (looking like november time) i was wondering how many others are thinking of getting one of these nice looking cards. They genuinely seem to be a real step up from whats about now and with a 5870 coming close too at worst and beating a gtx295 at best in some games has to be worth the £270ish price they are set to be released at. If nothing else there are hot topics on these cards on many forums so thought it was about time CF got it's :D.

I have an 8800GT 512Mb right now. It's slowly degrading... Performance is going down the pan.
So, 5870 is looking great to me, or even just a reduced price GTX275/85/95 when they come out :) |

Is the 5 series dx11 compatible? Not bothered looking myself! Just in from playing football, now watching football and typing this on my iPhone. I've heard then new ati cards are the nuts as ms have incorporated a lot if interesting features in dx11 that ati have built and designed for maximum potential.

DX11 compatible indeed. nVidia have nothing on them yet.

Re: So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
possibly middle next for Nvidia which will mean the 5800 series can be properly tested and have loads of time to come down in price ready for me to start bothering lol

Well i agree pc gaming at the minute is not brilliant but dx11 seems to have got developers interested again so maybe it will kickstart some decent games. I think dx10 and the way it got nerfed by nvidia played a big part in putting developers off pc gaming and did a fair bit of damage so i was happy this time to see ms set a standard and stick to it.

Re: So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
I have an 4890 already.
As zing said. No need to upgrade. |
Re: So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
Well i don't pay for my gfx cards so going from a 4870X2 to a 5870X2 is not a question of need for me purely a gift and i will no doubt enjoy the extra performance whether that be in dx11 games or more likely being able to completely max out settings on most dx9\10 games.

Re: So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
i don't see the point in upgrading my graphics at the moment nothing is stressing my graphics, except crysis and that very rarely gets played now.
next time i upgrade my graphics i will look and see what the diff is between nvidia and ati, but by the sounds of it ati might be able to fully compete with nvidia on performance rather than just price. |
Re: So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
Well it isn't looking like there will be a competitive nvidia part for dx11 till late q1 or even q2 next year they seem to have royally screwed up something.

Re: So whose buying an Ati 5xxx gfx card when they are out :).
yep but it will be next year before i upgrade my graphics anyway so will see what is about when i do it.
