no more included photobox

Well looks like another service is being taken off our broadband plus bundle...

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR ACCOUNT

Dear customer,

We are writing to inform you that the service we offer will no longer be in partnership with
Virgin Media. Nothing will change and you can still log in with your current details as below:

Your log-in details: ****

From now on please log in on www.photobox.co.uk

We will no longer be offering the Virgin monthly offer of 15 free prints. To compensate that and as a gift for you carrying on using our service we're offering you a free Minibook (worth £5.99).

Just log-in to your account, create a Minibook, add it to your basket and enter the offer code ** at the checkout to claim your free gift! (Offer is valid until 3rd April 2009, terms apply).

So less service, more expensive service..

I need say no more about it, beacuse this is why I went for 10meg for the plus services.. but as you can see, Virgin have yet again made sure they get more money from us for less..

How do you feel about this?

I upgraded to 10meg despite the fact that I don't even need it because ... it was free for a month.

At the end of that month, I couldn't be arsked to revert. But a couple of weeks later I thought "I'm paying for Extras, might as well have a squint". One squint later, it was clear that it was vastly overhyped. But there were a few point & click freebie games that provided a pleasant distraction for me & the mrs (not "proper" gamers).

Now that is gone. Replaced with:

"In ‘Play Video Games’, Metaboli has more than 320 great PC games to choose from. The ‘Essential Collection’ offers more than 200 games to download and play every, and costs only £6.95 a month. Plus, if you sign up, we’ll give you the first month free! Just use the code VMGAMES30 at the checkout."

Wow! A one-off worth (cue drum roll) seven whole English pounds!

So, to answer your question in one word -- shafted.

To answer it in several words, I feel pretty much the same as I did when Sky1 went.

Me: "So, Sky1's gone, will the price drop or will I get something else?"
Rep: "We're giving you great different stuff instead."
Me: "Such as?"
Rep: "Err ... Hallmark?"
Me: "Jeepers, I can hardly contain myself. Anything else?"
Rep: "Yeah, this amazing new Virgin Central thingy."
Me: "That's available on analog, right?"
Rep: "Err ... no."

To be honest, I did then get a one-off £25 discount. And now I have a Vbox, I'm quite into Monk. But generally speaking, the more things change ... the worse they get.

Thanks for asking tho'. :)

Isn't there enough free online storage knocking around to the point of (that part of) VM's service being worthless?

Its a free service that will be included in all packages except for the new S tier and customers will use it for convenience as the is no requirement to register on another site.

Is it any good? you say well we will have to wait and see.

This is aimed at mr and mrs average who want to do this the easy way, we all know the are many easier ways to do this, including purchasing external hard drives and using one of the many free providers, we can do this but they usually cannot or will not, so a free service provided by their service provider is what they will prefer.

Actually I don't. I say "is it worth anything given that free online storage is widely available?"

Thanks for your comments. :)

Erm, with an upload rate of 512kbps or less when stm'd on broadband L, the online storage is practically useless. It would take a day or two to upload anything other than pictures to it, and I suspect VM realise this. Hence it being offered. They offer us something that they know won't be used much, therefore don't have too invest too much into it.

External HDD's are a better option.

not everyone is tech savy so an online storage will be great for some and not needed for others.
Online photos I suspect will be used for the free photos and then neglected still its something for nothing.
To be honest if the take up of V stuff has 10 times the usage base of the old bb extras it will still not be 10% of the userbase.
