Unlocking Mobiles Charge

I thought the £15 charge for unlocking mobiles was a bit steep.

I fancied being unlocked rather than locked onto a provider .... never mind that I just put some more credit on my phone - so obviously going to use them a while longer!!!

I see where you are coming from!

I would honestly prefer to be free (unlocked) and thought £15 was on the high side !!:D

if the phone is on contract, your provider has to give you the unlock code after 12 months ;) Vodafone mailed me mine after i phoned to request it.

£15 is a fair price, some providers have charged upwards of £30-£40 in the past.

You could take your phone to a local mobile repair shop and they might be able to do it for you for cheaper (I paid £10 to get mine unlocked so I could switch to virgin)

I got mine unlocked for £10 as well just from a small mobile phone shop.

Its not on contract - I'm on PAYG and had this phone for 4 years and another phone for another fairish stretch with Virgin!

oh right, but as said above £10 is about the norm, maybe dearer for new phones but as yours is 4yrs old it should be cheap. ;)

See there is ya problem lol.

I got a N73 and it had no Virgin branding on it whatsoever, and was a lot cheaper than a SIM free version :D

If its a sim that you have had for a while it might be deactivated and not actually show you if the phone is unlocked or not, better off trying a friends sim card to see if the phone is unlocked.

What type of phone is it your wanting to unlock?

I paid £6 at the local market to have a Samsung E250 unlocked from Virgin.
