BT now caps *everyone*
I know it's no consolation for us, but probably a sign of how things are going, but BT caps ALL users in the evening to just 15% of their nominal bandwidth
Makes VM capping at 25% almost seem generous doesn't it  http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08...th_throttling/ |
Re: BT now caps *everyone*
Moved to 'Other ISPs' as this is about BT, not Virgin.

I always thought that BBC iPlayers full install used P2P on downloading ;)

Re: BT now caps *everyone*
If only we lived in an enlightened country where the regulator was against this type of throttling: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/25...cting-net.html

If you are on cable broadband, as you can get BBC iPlayer on Virgin TV, why would you want it on your computer ;) |

This does NOT affect bbc iplayer at all and this is better than what VM have come out with (STM) |
Re: BT now caps *everyone*
I dont know I think thats really bad as they have been shaping BT connections aswell I can see all ISP's soon coming in with STM or Capping as the internet is growing faster than the ISP's bandwidth

AFAIK BT is expecting not to use any sort of shaping/throttling on their fibre rollout as the networks backhaul will be massively upgraded allowing for much less congestion and no need for shaping (much in the same way fios works). VM, however, cannot afford to upgrade their backhaul/network linkups (as they have only just upgraded to 40G while BT is 100G) |
Re: BT now caps *everyone*
Well lucky BT customers can get rid of shaping by 2012, I dont like BT there speeds r **** and they lie to customers and spy on you, simple I would never ever use BT for a ISP.
As for Virgin I deal with stm I would prefer it to be removed but I can work round it, as all I do is download and play xbox live which alot of customers do aswell |

But 10am-3pm is not peak time, i'm not quite sure how they manage to get away with it. And yes alot of customers do that and they are the ones who hit the STM. |

VM only has multiple 40Gbit network link ups, BT has 100Gbit. There is no need to shape on docsis3/FTTH providing you have good network link ups as to not cause congestion. The only reason VM are shaping 50Mbit is due to the fact they simply dont have that kind of bandwith available. 50Mbit from VM is not a serious product, its a willy waving thing. |
