How can you not know you're daughter was locked in a cellar for that long, had 7 children. It says some of the children were living upstairs, so where the hell does his wife think they came from? The Stork?
haha. My bum cheeks indeed. |
Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
I've been listening to this unfold through the night on the news. The grandfather/grandmother and a son in law all lived there too?? A
The son in law is said to be flabbergasted! The father is alleged to have written notes from his daughter to their family asking them to look after her kids as they arrived as she already had three with her at her 'sect' (which is where he's been saying she was). She's said to have had twins of which one died some time later. Her Father is thought to have burned the body. I find it all completely horrific and a bit tough to take in. She had three kids with her in the cellar. 7, 15 & 19 who have never seen the light of day.. My God - who could do this to a anyone, let alone your own daughter? :( The depravity these people have suffered. Apparently the 3 kids are in a 'horrendous condition', both physically and mentally. Horrible story. |

Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
Apart from the mind bending cruelty in this case I am struggling to imagine the what it must be like to emerge into the 21st century after spending all that time locked in a windowless cellar.
A young girl forced into an unnatural relationship then imprisoned for so many years. The children have never seen the sky, have never experienced the warmth of the sun or the touch of the wind on their faces. How can these poor victims ever have a normal existence after this. |
Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
This all beggars belief.... Horrifying abuse !!

Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
This is awful !
I hope those responsable go to prison for a very long time ! |
Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
Hmm. Nice. That's respectable society for you, when a man's house is his castle. Just like the 1950s.
Talking of which: http://bloodandtreasure.typepad.com/...from_the_.html [slightly NSFW due to subject and language, but it's a fascinating story. As a thought experiment, try and work out why it couldn't happen today] |

Why don't you see if you can find the statement, the Nostalgia Front will return Britain to the standards of social order that prevailed in the 1950s, on UKIP's website because I don't believe it exists, and certainly not as in the interpretation used in your link. Failing that, I did find this statement on Young People and Citizenship: "... What children – teenagers in reality – need is a "rite of passage" that prepares them for adulthood. A traditionalist cry has often been ‘bring back National Service’ which may have its merits (as anybody watching Bad Lads Army on ITV can appreciate) but would not suit a large percentage of teenagers. Those "Bad Lads" with their energy and excess aggression are the ones who would benefit most, but many quieter types, for example, would not. "What society should do is provide them with a worthwhile gap year between college and work or university (and yes they should stay on at school to do A-levels or else do some vocational training or apprenticeship). At the age of 18 they are ready for this sort of challenge and many do something already. This gap year should be spent doing a "service" either in the UK or abroad. "What form this service would take should be up to the individual. There should be a list of options provided and suitability assessments and guidance given. Options would include:
As for Elizabeth Fritzl and her children, what a truly terrible existence it must have been. |

My link: 2004
Your link: 2007 Your point rather escapes me there, but if you want to take it up with Jamie Kenny, feel free, it's his blog and there's a perfectly serviceable comments section. The fundamental point as to whether it's better to deal with horrific familial abuse in a 1950s local way (allowing it to continue as long as it doesn't affect the fabric of society) or in the 2000s way (plastering it all over the papers and sending in the police and social services) is an interesting one. Austria is a much more straight-laced, patriarchal society than the UK, which is probably why this awful thing could continue there for decades. |

Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
If, as is reported, only the father new the contents of the cellar, what would have happened to the occupants if he had died? Hardly bears thinking about!:erm::shocked:

Re: Slave in a cellar for 24 years!
True but very little about this case bears much thinking about. Those poor children........ :(
