Tesco do a Technika 37" LCD 1080p tv for around £500. If the 26" what I have is anything to go by then I think it'll be a very good buy. Had a quick look on Tesco.direct but didnt see it as sometimes online items are not in store and vice versa.

Thinking about getting a 37" myself and after looking around this is the one I'm looking at http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/produ...oduct_id=13867. It's got 3 HDMIs and gets quite good reviews. Got a Toshiba DVD with HDMI so hopefully they'll work well together.

The actual budget is the most critical factor.

You'll need to look at the spec and decide what you really need, contrast, pixel support and resolution, Inputs (HDMI / Scart / tuner types) etc. At the budget end things will be fast moving wheras at the grand plus range it's a case of study the magazine reviews.

This is why I mentioned the Tesco Technika 37" 1080p "cheap"

But ebuyer.com has a 720p\1080i Hannspree for £365 "cheaper" :) http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126887

I'm not sure that these cheap "supermarket" / hanspree / dabs / "unknown brand" etc LCD tv's are really value for money.

A friend recently got an Onn 32" LCD from Asda, not sure what they paid for it, but to honest the picture is terrible.
Blurring and juddering on all but the slowest of movement on screen, picture is so soft with SD pictures from Virgin (they don't have HD so can't comment on that) and as for the black levels forget it, it doesn't get anywhere near black.

Makes the picture on my 7 year old CRT look blummin' fantastic!

But hey, they seem happy with it, but I know I wouldn't be.

I'm currently considering getting a 32" LCD (don't have the room for anything bigger), and if I convince myself to do it, I'll be getting this one:
http://www.hdtvorg.co.uk/reviews/lcd..._TX32LMD70.htm
Can get it for around £500

Spot on. I've got a Samsung Le40m87 and the blacks are black, there are no clouds that Sonys have. I got it for £640 (quidco+ double e-coupons from Currys). I cannot buy it for that money today.

You need to do some work and be patient to get a Samsung Le37m87 cheaply. Register with Quidco and monitor avforum & moneysavers for e-coupons and offers: For example dixons has currently a miserable e-coupon "FIVEOFFTV" To Get 5% Off.

Panasonic Plasma 37".

Only manufacturer to do a plasma that size (well it used to be, might be more now)

You can't get better!

When I was looking for a HDTV I was told go for LG or Toshiba, even though I was standing next to a Panasonic.

Another thing I was told

Upto 32" go for LCD

above 32" get Plasma

Another thing to bear in mind is viewing distance. For a 37" tv you want about 9 feet between you and the screen especially when watching sd channels, size is not everything.
