Try this link: http://www.itpro.co.uk/news/137472/t...-websites.html

Thing is, most people will use these drives to host an OS, which will normally mean a format at the time of install.

Also, most uses will be partitioning a harrd drive of this size down into smaller chunks, normally by deleting the one "whole drive" patition, and then creating multiple smaller ones. These partitions would then also need formatting.

Both of the above procceses would erase the trojan.

Yes? And?

I can't find anything on that Seagate article which states:

Quote taken from the ITPro article:

Quote:

Disks produced by Seagate allegedly have a Trojan which sends a copy of all saved data to a website.
...and from the Seagate article:

Quote:

The effects of this virus are minimal. According to Kaspersky the virus is the Virus.Win32.AutoRun.ah, a molar virus that searches for passwords to online games and sends them to a server located in China. It also deletes other molar viruses and can disable virus detection software. All of the known games affected are Chinese with the exception of World of Warcraft. The following games are affected.

WSGame
91.com
QQ
Woool
rxjh.17game.com
TianLongBaBu
AskTao
Perfect World (Wanmei Shijie)
World of Warcraft

Only heard of World of Warcraft...but the point is - it only sends game passwords...

Depends who you believe, but could well be the usual press misinformation:-
