VM and Youtube, yet again

Posting this because yet again I am disgusted at how incredibly slow Youtube is on my VM (supposedly) 10Mb connection.

At my friends house, he can buffer a 10 minute video in 2 minutes or so on a 1Mb AOL connection, yet on my 10Mb it takes almost 20 minutes?! (timed: 19 minutes 57 seconds to load a 9 minute 23 second video)

Since the time it takes to buffer the whole video is greater than the length of the actual video, I have to load the page and pause the video for a bit while I wait for it to buffer enough so that I can watch it the whole way through without it stopping and starting.

So what the hell is VM's problem?

Im on 8Mbps VM and it takes blummin ages to buffer a video on youtube. The best way is put it into full screen or lower the quality of the video by right clicking on it.

the last couple of weeks I've found that many youtube videos won't even load at all. Well, perhaps they are doing but I can't be bothered waiting 10 minutes.

think that may be a Youtube issue - I found that last night on some videos and I'm on Sky BB. :)

No you are meant to have upto 8 meg depending on distance from the exchange.

Surely it shouldn't be as low as that though...

Either ways my problem seems to be with all streaming video. It took almost an hour to buffer a 37mb video yesterday. What the hell is the problem?

Well im on 4mb and aint got any probs, are you letting it play/buffer at the same time?, i usually start to play the video then pause it, it buffers a hell of a lot faster then play/buffer at the same time. Give it a whirl.

Sometimes it helps if you go through google video instead.

I pause it and let it buffer for ages.

LOL speedtest from inside VM's network, I think something is wrong here.

Where is my other 9.7Mbit?!

I'm on 20M and get that speed but youtube still crawls or bits of it do.

Today it seems to be particularly bad.
Refreshing the page sometimes kicks the video into action.

Youtube has gone crap. A % of the clips refuse to even load in Opera, it's not Opera as most of them work fine. I am always having issues with buffering, so slow it's stupid. Don't go off speed test sites, they are just as bad. I just tried one and it took seven different servers just to hit anything near 10Mbit (I am on 20Mbit)

Try this.

http://stage6.divx.com/videos?order=...&cid=DP0000007

This is one of the fastest sites I have seen. The Alex Gaudino - Destination music video buffered 120Mb or so in about 40secs. It topped out at 1.8Mb/s.

So I know the connection is fine.

Is it only youtube you have a problem with?, try google video, metacafe, Killsome time etc

Re: VM and Youtube, yet again

I on the on the "2mb" broadband service and off peak youtube is fine (still kinda slow sometimes) but as soon as its peak time, videos take 25-20 mins to fully stream.

Whats amazing is if I go to myspace tv and stream vids, no matter what time i do it, on peak or off peak, all videos buffer incredibly fast, in mere seconds.

Youtube needs improving?
