Trying to install a new graphics card
I got a new Graphics card ( x800xt extreme edition) to replace my fx5900xt.
I know you said get the x1950 zing but just cant afford that one right now and got this one at a good deal. Now the problem. I uninstalled all the nvidia drivers, powered down, took out the 5900 and inserted the x800. Booted up ok and installed xtreme-g drivers....all went ok but i could not access the ati control panel. So i uninstalled all ati drivers to install the drivers from Ati site, Upon rebooting i can see the bios, i can see the the windows loading page and when it goes to the desktop my monitor just goes black. This is with a crt monitor cause my TFT just isnt seeing anything. It should see it when and if i get the proper drivers installed again. Any suggestions ?? |
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
hit f8 after post and boot into safe mode. Uninstall the drivers again. Reboot into windows and you should be back.Reinstall whatever drivers worked first time and download either the ATI control centre or the Control panal which I would as its less bloated

Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
The way I tend to do it:
1) Goto GFX properties in Device Manager 2) Update drivers and choose yourself, Standard VGA Driver 3) Restart 4) Uninstall Nvidia drivers and use Forceware Remover or Detonator Destroyer to remove all remnants (search Google for either) 5) Shutdown 6) Install new GFX card 7) Power on 8) Install new GFX card drivers 9) Restart Should be good to go. |

Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
OK now that i have the graphics card working i have another problem now.
When i connect the monitor using the DVI cable i get nothing but a black screen yet it works great using VGA.....i'm not using the dvi->vga adapter either. Any ideas ? |
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
Is your monitor set to digital input? What about the PC, is that set to output on DVI?
|
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
how do i find this out ? cause i have no clue
Ok just looked on monitor setting and its set to analog and if i try to change it to digital says no signal and reverts back to analog. How do i chack the PC ? |
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
plug the digital cable into the screen then set it up and remove vga

It sounds like the pc DVI socket is ok, as it works with the VGA adapter, but no picture using a DVI cable suggests a problem with the cable, or the DVI socket on the monitor? I'm using mine with an ATI9800se & IIRC when I changed to using the DVI connector on the monitor, it detected it automatically when I booted up??? |
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
It is already zing
|
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
so both cables are installed?
|
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
doubt a dodgy dvi cable as it was working with my 5900xt...just cant get it working with the x800xt
Yes zing both cables are installed. I just tried setting my monitor to digital and unplugged the vga cable when i pressed ok to detect but still went to black screen and the light on my monitor went from blue to amber like it does when there is no input |
Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
the gfx has vga and dvi? is there an auto button to try with just the dvi cable in?

Re: Trying to install a new graphics card
Yes it has vga and dvi inputs? Auto button on the monitor yes but does not do anything.
edit: Just tried restarting with just the DVI cable in and pressing the auto button on the monitor and still does nothing Edit Edit: Could it be something in the Catalyst Contol Panel ? Reason for asking is when i 1st had this trouble it was only connected with the DVI cable and i had to connect a CRT monitor to see the desktop. Upon using the CRT after a little playing around i was able to clone the desktop from the CRT to the TFT monitor which again was connected via DVI cable. SO could it just be a setting somewhere ? |
