Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Anyone have this?

I think I may have it, in a mild form, especially near exam times. I know it's natural to worry but the lengths I go to are unhealthy. The last exam I went to, I checked that my pencil case was in my bag at least 15 times on the way to college, even though it was impossible that it had left the bag. After doing an exam I am constantly reliving the exam in my head wondering what I could have done wrong. I checked that I had the right paper attached my exam when I was finished, about 5 times. It's also elsewhere, for example, at night I have to check several times that the doors are locked, that the gas and fire are off, etc. It also seems that I have a lack of trust in people and machinery. I am always worried about examiners making mistakes counting my marks up and stuff, or computers adding it up wrong. I worry about teachers not having entered me for an exam, etc...

What a strange person I must sound :erm: ;)

Anyone else have similar problems?

Seriously, though, I know what you mean, when you get up-tight about something, your mind starts running in circles and you can get stuck in a "loop" of behaviour.

Before you get too stressed about it (which is only likely to make it worse!) do as Scrubbs suggests and try some simple breathing exercises, not only do they help with the stress but also with concentration and you may well find it becomes a lot easier.

My girlfriend has an OCD with cleanliness. Sheets need to be washed, cuts have to be covered, spots have to be dealt with. It's a never ending circle.

As long as you have supportive and loving people around you (as I am to her) then your OCD can be dealt with.

Don't worry everyone has the same thoughts around stressful times, like exams. I misplaced my loan form yesterday and thought the world was going to end, i foudn it this aftrenoon though and all is fine. ;)

I check for pens and exam entry forms and other bits all the time when im on my way and get others to check too, just incase im halucinating maybe? hehe!

Its normal to worry, just sit down and have a cup of tea and relax, it'll all work out in the end, I however when i'm stressed will not listen to anyone tell me this and will honestly think everything is just a mess, but dont let yourself get like that, take some deep breaths and think of all the great things you'll be able to do when exams have finished and how nice it'll be not to have to look at a textbook again! :)

My exams start next week, so im calm at the moment but by next week i'll be bouncing off the walls, but its only a few hours of your time, is hardly worth it when you think of the actually time of the exam and how much more time you spend worrying about the damn thing! :disturbd:

As for teachers not entering you, its best to check, i wasnt entered for any exams last year the useless college admin, so it best to check because there all a bunch of eejits :D

Good luck, if you still have exams left! :)

What you have just described is an ordinary women Russ ;)

For the record I have a thing where I blink constantly far far roo much , it started last year. When I am talking to someoneI think they are looking at how much I am blinking and it makes it worse. It is do with stress!

Diamond, you sound pretty normal to me, during times of stress its pretty ordinary to have irrational beliefs!

O.c.d.

Did anyone see that programme on Channel 4 last night about OCD?

I did, but then I had to watch it again to make sure I hadn't missed any of it!

Sky+'d it. Will watch later. Only recorded it because I think I suffer from a mild form.

<equally poor taste> sorry I missed it, I was washing my hands </taste>

I'm gutted I missed it actually, I have two close friends that suffer in very real ways with this condition, it is truely debilitating when it starts taking over your life.

I watched one about it a couple of weeks ago and I felt so sorry for the lady that had to keep checking every thing and it took her ages to stick a stamp on a card :(

i remember seeing a program about a lady who could not throw anything away.

She used to make her husband go through the bin bag twice to make sure she had not thrown anything valuble away..

I think her husband was at breaking point... :(

Re: O.c.d.

That is the program I saw as well and if they went out in the car as they left the house he had to keep reversing so she could make sure they hadn't dropped any thing

Yeah that was the one,

I wonder if hypnotism could work?

Re: {Merged} O.c.d.

I really don't know but I remeber the program ending with her being offered help and her saying she was just not ready. I felt sorry for her hubby as he was really suffering because of it :(
