Doff your cap

Bluewater has banned people from wearing baseball caps or hooded tops where they hide their face. :)

Oh goody! Another "let's tar everyone with the same brush" campaign!

While they're at it, why don't they tell all the clothes shops to stop *encouraging* kids to do this by banning them from selling baseball caps and hooded tops...!!!

:banghead:

How would *you* help prevent crime in shopping centres done by youths using hoods and caps as facial disguises? It's all very well defending their rights. What about the rights of the shop keepers who have their goods stolen? What about the public's rights who get mugged by theses thugs who find it hard to describe their attacker?

Would you advocate a thugs rights bill?

No one tells these kids they *have* to wear hoodies and caps. All they have to do is take them off and not threaten or menace anyone. That's not too much to ask for in the name of people's safety is it?

BTW, bear in mind there is a MASSIVE problem with Chavs at Bluewater.

Re: Doff your cap

There was an amusing article in the paper about some local kids who were complaining that the shop keepers and shop security would follow them like hawks when they were in the shops becausre they dressed like chav's.

They were saying that it wasn't fair as _they_ were honest law abiding kids (almost certainly true) and they didn't see why they should be singled out...

Well as far as Im concerned if you walk around wearing the modern equivilent of a strippy top and a swag bag then you bound to have an eye kept on you. I'm not saying that chav=criminal but since a significant number of young criminals dress like chavs then go figure.

Re: Doff your cap

Yeah, I wasn't actually saying that all chavs are criminals. I know a few who would never commit a criminal act. It's just, as you say, criminals tend to dress the same way.

OK, so not everyone wearing a hoodie and baseball cap is a trouble maker, but enough of them are. The same has happened with many fashions over the years - it's nothing new.

Perhaps the 'nice' kids ought to recognise that by choosing this fashion they're also inviting to be stereotyped accordingly.

I also find that its the specific combination of the baseball cap AND the hooded top worn with the hood up that is more 'threatening' than either on their own. And there is no reason why anyone should actually need to have the hood up indoors anyway...

I presume that means that wearing the baseball cap back-to-front is OK as it doesn't hide the face?

Well the article did say this:

I agree about the hooded tops, because why wear them up if you're inside a shopping mall, which is not exposed to the elements. I disagree about the baseball caps though.

Though that is just my opinion, it doesn't make it right or wrong.

I agree with it the general majority of us and I am sure you Graham wear a cap normally you do not wear a Schott top with a hood over your head looking at ground while walking with a swagger and looking dodgy with a burberry desire for badly modified Nova's?

Its a good idea to permit a place where yobs aint permitted.

People sometimes forget that they do NOT have an automatic right to go in any shop, pub, restaurant or shopping centre. With certain restrictions (for instance if you refused somebody access purely because they are disabled, then that is not allow) the management have the right to say who goes in and who stays out.
