Trouble installing Greeting Card Magic
Ok, when i go to install the programme, it asks me to enter the password which i do, it then preparres the Install Sheild Wizard. This then in turn, pops up a 16Bit MS DOS Subsystem error, which i cant seem to fix. The program is designed for XP

Re: Trouble installing Greeting Card Magic
What does the error actually say/look like?
Any chance of a screen shot? |
Re: Trouble installing Greeting Card Magic
Try creating an shortcut to the installer, then right click and try different compatability modes....
If it installs you may need to set the program to run in a different compatibility mode as well. |

Yep - I now keep a backup copy of autoexec.nt in another folder as I have had to replace it 5+ times now.

Re: Trouble installing Greeting Card Magic

Try the microsoft solution http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324767<<<<<~~~~~~~this one appears to be in better detail If the problems solved you have done it right if it isnt you haven't :) Put xp cd in and in command prompt type :- expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt |

Re: Trouble installing Greeting Card Magic
try copying file in safe mode its the autoexec.nt file ,if not borrow a cd its not like you copying it,
If its file protected ie Will not overwrite in windows or safe mode ,do a quick google and download the trial versions of xplite, run this and turn off windows file protection |
Re: Trouble installing Greeting Card Magic
Like others have said, the problem is the autoexec.nt file - just copy it from a working PC and try running the installer again. Perhaps someone could attach a copy here? My PC is Windows 98, so can't help. It's a fairly common problem. Either the file doesn't exist or has nothing in it. The file shouldn't be protected - Windows reads the file when it starts ntvdm, that's all.
16-bit DOS subsystem is the part of XP that runs programs designed for ye olde Windows. It's an emulator. If you look at the processes running, you'll see "ntvdm" listed. autoexec.nt acts like autoexec.bat - e.g. establishing memory organisation and usage, defining assorted environment variables. |

WARNING: I had to change the file extension to .doc to get it to upload. You will need to rename the file and change the extension to .nt once you have saved it to your computer.
Save it to your desktop first then rename it, then put it wherever it needs to go. Please be sure to backup all essential data before trying this, I won't accept any responsibility of this goes pear-shaped ;) Good luck :tu: |
