Ntl FTP Unaccessible?

Hello all

Yes yes very excited about the speed upgrade...

Anyways....

I want to uoload a file for temp storage onto my NTL webspace. Only problem is, i can connect to it? It keeps saying they cut the connection. (Remote Host Cut the Connection or something)

I am connecting to upload.ntlworld.com, and of course my username/password.

I heard that NTL maybe enforcing you to use that Terrapin software, is this true?? I am using CuteFTP Pro. I also tried via IE and DOS FTP...same error.

Thanks

Hong

Whoever told you that has fed you some BS. I have just tested my FTP and uploaded and downloaded a file ok (using ws-ftp). What exactly is the error message you get, and at what point ?

Re: Ntl FTP Unaccessible?

The exact error from Cute is 'Control Connection Closed' just after it says 'Waiting for Welcome Message', but before it should authenticate the username and password.

IE says 'The FTP Session was terminated' as soon as I hit enter after ftp://upload.ntlworld.com

Hmm, strange.

What do you guys suggest?

when I used to use my ntl webspace, I often found that I periodically had problems with it - I couldn't modify files at certain points, which seemed to be random!

perhaps this is the same problem?

also, this may be a silly question, but have you allowed the FTP program via your firewall?

Plonking: It just doesnt seem to allow me to access it at all. Strange indeed. I had this problem on and off for agesm now it seems permenant.

I really wouldnt like to ring NTL Tech Support...

And yes! My FTP is allowed in the firewall config.

After you get that message, press ok. Then goto file-> login as , and enter your details. Do you then see the files on the webspace?

PM me the username for the webspace and i'll check it is all working properly tonight.

You are trying to get to the server from an NTL IP address? When I connect from work I get the connection terminated, but works fine from my home BBand. Just a thought!

Aha! I'm at work at the mo...

I shall try when i get in. But shouldnt it be accessible from (potenially) anywhere in the world?

Re: Ntl FTP Unaccessible?

Well this is interesting, if not a bit annoying.

Works fine from home.

So...

Is it that I am not 'allowed' to access it from anywhere other than my home? Are there any ways to get round this?

Re: Ntl FTP Unaccessible?

You can only upload to the ntl ftp servers from a ntl network ip. There is no way round this.
