More spam?

Hello,

Has anybody noticed an increase spam from ntl over the last three days or so?

I'm getting a bucket-load! Now getting about 250+ a day, before I used to get about 50 a day!

ok - thanks for the replies....

How do I know if the new ntl AV / Spam filter is being applied to my ntl account??

In fact, does anyone here know anything about the new AV/Spam filter coming in 'End of November'? Spamcop seems to be trapping as much spam as ever (or does the filter not get applied to forwarded mail?)

This should be clarified, and in my experience is rather typical of many customers' misunderstandings about how the internet works.

'Spam from ntl' means unsolicited junk mail that has actually been sent from ntl themselves. What I suspect this post refers to is actually "spam to my ntl address', which is entirely different and not something ntl have any direct control over.

I used to encounter the same thing with many customers aover viruses. 'ntl has given me a virus', 'ntl's broadband has got viruses on it', etc etc.

There remains a complete and total lack of understanding of the internet among many internet users regardless of the company they use. AOL users are the worst as they have been 'brought up' to believe that AOL *is* the internet, the number of new customers to ntl broadband I have dealt with who ask 'how do I get my AOL on then?', it's ridiculous.

*All* ISPs need to rethink how they sell the product. Too many people think 'the internet' ann 'their PC' are the same thing and are as easy to use and as safe to use as switching on a TV or a washing machine. This is not the case and the ISPs, the media, and everyone else should stop pretending that it is. Whilst you don't need a degree in computing to use it, you DO need some simple, basic information before you start, and it simply isn't being provided.

To clarify - I mean spam that has been sent to me via my ntl mail account - not sent by NTL - that would not be spam since I'm an NTL customer!

BTW - I've been an NTL customer for 5+ years, and have been in the IT industry for 15+ years - I think I understand how the internet works!!

I'm getting the same amount of spam to my NTL 'Spam designated' account as ever. However the g*ts have now targetted my Gmail account. :( Which does have a spam filter but thus far it has targetted both spam and non spam mail.

Seems to me that it is progressively worsening in small increments all round.I even get spamming on my blogs.

Also has anyone been targetted through their guestbooks?I can see that happening one of these days.

I'm getting more and more spam getting through n.i.s.'s filter will have to sit down and try 'teaching' it some more ;)

But, it is becoming a bit more than an inconvenience :(

Well I have only a small amount of spam, usually about 1 or 2 a day. Sometimes not even that. Somedays no spam at all. The ones I do receive Thunderbird sorts it. :)

Must admit I'm still rather impressed with Yahoos filter, it gets nearly all of my spam, I get about 2 or 3 a week and it NEVER gets legitimate emails. All my other accounts, Hotmail/Gmail/Tiscali/open.ac.uk get loads, I'm rather disappointed with the gmail one though I thought they'd be better at filtering the spam than this :(

Marked decrease in spam for the past week or so - as much as 50% I would guess without checking the figures. It's wonderful :D Not sure what happened though - I heard the hurricanes helped :erm:

still getting the same myself.. It's all Rolex watches and M$ stuff from Russia as welll as the usual viagra stuff.

Not had any details yet on the spam filtering NTL are reply nor seen anything offical to say it has actually been turned on for my account.

Will check the message headers when I get home and see if they revile whether this has been applied or not.

Hardly any spam here, I use gmail for my ntl mail and gmail mail to be joined together.
