Still on 600K...
Despite NTL's promised speed changes I'm still on 600K (instead of 750K). My D/L speed haven't changed and are still slightly under 600K (using Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test). What's worse is that NTL now has taken offline the "postcode checker" page that was supposed to tell you when the upgrades would take place (you know the one that said September, then October, then November...!). I even tried to send them an email through their automated customer support form online but guess what? A couple of days later I received a delivery failure email.
I guess my action is are there any others still not upgraded to 750K? Do I need to spend 20 mins on the cable modem hotline to get this fixed? Any advice would be appreciated. OK forgot to say I was in the Hemel Hempstead area, and my cable model is a Terrayon (if that helps). |
Re: Still on 600K...
have you tried unplugging the power from your modem ?
if not unplug it for about 3mins plug back in, wait for it to get connected then do a speed test, if it's not upgraded get on that phone to cs and moan like you've never moaned b4 |
Re: Still on 600K...
deffo the first step is to power down the modem and see what happens :)

Re: Still on 600K...
PM the mac address of the modem if the reboot doesn't work, and i'll check out the speed and correct if necessary :)

Re: Still on 600K...
SuperCow isn't the only one - rebooting my SACM has no effect on my overall speed either - Robin Walker's speed text gives me
Sat, 04 Dec 2004 21:42:10 GMT 1st 128K took 3475 ms = 37719 Bytes/sec = approx 314 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 3756 ms = 34897 Bytes/sec = approx 290 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 3735 ms = 35093 Bytes/sec = approx 292 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 3786 ms = 34620 Bytes/sec = approx 288 kbits/sec and Dan Elwell's agrees ... :-( |
Re: Still on 600K...
Sure that's not a 300k service working perfectly?

Re: Still on 600K...
Looks like a modem reboot did the trick as I'm now around 705K D/L speed. I had tried a CM reboot a few weeks back with no success and reading about upgrades experiences from other users who didn't need to reboot I had assumed it would not be necessary.
Anyway, thanks to everybody that replied! |

Or just drop me your modem's MAC address and I can check for you...

Re: Still on 600K...
I'm still stuck on 600K too despite the postcode checker telling me it'd be up to 750 by November. Checked yesterday and it was still at 600, via the control panal with Root/Root.
The modem's been powered on and off many times since  Edit: Just noticed Jez, I'm in Glasgow too, coincidentally! (or not!) |
Re: Still on 600K...
delete your cookies and temp internet files/cache, unplug the modem for about 3 mins, before doing the speed test, this is the way I got it up to 750.
