Timer for windows

I found this on majorgeeks. It appears to be a customisable timer to remind you to get up from the 'puter and have a strech.......for all you back pain/rsi sufferers out there. :)

edit--here's another one for you...........

How often SHOULD I be having a break from my pc? and does it matter (eye strain wise) that I don't use a crt?

Just wondering what the reccomendations are?

There are no hard and fast rules. It all depends on the person and what/how bad their complaint is......
One thing.......if you get low back pain with sitting then the lumbar/sacral ligaments deform inelastically (exhibit 'creep') after 8 minutes. So if you are sitting 'badly' the rot sets in after as little as 8 minutes :D
......so in a case of low back pain it might be a good idea to initially set a timer to ping after about 5 minutes to remind you to sit properly/straighten up.

edit--eye strain wise (from personal experience) a tft is no strain on the eyes at all.......but maby ask an optitian for a second opinion on that :D

Thanks for that :)

I was getting worried that I didn't get much eye strain on my tft :)

I do get a bit of back pain on my chair upstairs - but I always thought it was 'cos it wasn't a good chair (it's a fancy leather one), maybe I should sit up instead of slouching in it then :)

As a Display Screen Assesor at work, I was told in my training classes that while doing any work (PC based or not), you should look at something else every 10 minutes or so. Just to force your eyes to refocus.

Don't know about TFT screens but the working time regulations state 15 mins every hour although I know that this is not enforced in call centres. :grind:

Try doing a 10 1/2 hour shift on the phone with only a couple of 15 breaks and a 30 min lunch break, I'll be made blind one day - especially with the stupid 60Hz default refresh rate on the computers that IT are too lazy to fix.
