dead slow download rates
hiya
i have a 150k bb connex. am currently downloading a 1.7Mb file. I have a transfer rate of only 451b/s It says that it is expecting to take another 35 mins to download this file. this is obviously not right. any ideas what is going on? |
sorry i was using the wrong ID then.
my d/l rate has now fell again to 300b/s tho please help |
now fell again to 225 b/s

Click this link then post the results:

1st 128K took 0 ms = Infinity Bytes/sec = approx Infinity kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 50 ms = 2621440 Bytes/sec = approx 21810 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 0 ms = Infinity Bytes/sec = approx Infinity kbits/sec 4th 128K took 60 ms = 2184533 Bytes/sec = approx 18175 kbits/sec something tells me that's not right. i'll run it again |
here we go
1st 128K took 19610 ms = 6684 Bytes/sec = approx 56 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 19110 ms = 6859 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 19060 ms = 6877 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 19340 ms = 6777 Bytes/sec = approx 56 kbits/sec |
that doesnt look healthy to me :(
|
now I am losing my pateince with it.
At 11:55 when I started my download it said that it would take 15 mins. Then it said 35 mins at 12:05. At 12:25 it said 30 mins. Just checked on it again and it nows says 60 mins. My transfer rate is at 250 bytes/sec. Just done another speed test and got Mon, 28 Jul 2003 23:58:00 UTC 1st 128K took 17410 ms = 7529 Bytes/sec = approx 63 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 18890 ms = 6939 Bytes/sec = approx 58 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 19170 ms = 6837 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 19110 ms = 6859 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec WTF is going on? |
hears mine:
1st 128K took 17080 ms = 7674 Bytes/sec = approx 64 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 18020 ms = 7274 Bytes/sec = approx 61 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 17570 ms = 7460 Bytes/sec = approx 62 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 17850 ms = 7343 Bytes/sec = approx 61 kbits/sec i think that is normal. |
You guys shoud really consider 1 meg.
Tue, 30 Jul 2002 09:22:29 UTC 1st 128K took 1061 ms = 123536 Bytes/sec = approx 1028 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 1062 ms = 123420 Bytes/sec = approx 1027 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 1081 ms = 121251 Bytes/sec = approx 1009 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 1062 ms = 123420 Bytes/sec = approx 1027 kbits/sec it really is the bestest way to access the net |
this is what a 150kps speed test should look like -
Tue, 29 Jul 2003 09:26:49 UTC 1st 128K took 7250 ms = 18079 Bytes/sec = approx 150 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 7200 ms = 18204 Bytes/sec = approx 151 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 7140 ms = 18357 Bytes/sec = approx 153 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 7300 ms = 17955 Bytes/sec = approx 149 kbits/sec |
Without knowing what uBR you are on, what your current IP is, what your MAC is, or any 2 of the above it's pretty much impossible to offer any insights.
The download rate is well below par, it's unlikely though that a download running as low as 350 bytes/s is the fault of ntl. Would also suggest that it's a fault fairly specific to you going by the lack of other people on here posting + complaining about the issue. [EDIT] Removed a few extra bits |
i take it you tried rebooting the modem KA?
Andre is right in what he has said abt it defaulting to the 64k service |
If you have download speeds in the 60's, I would check a few things first, before phoning ntl.
If you have an Ambit modem (ntl:home 100/120), you can check which service your modem is configured for, by going here:- http://192.168.100.1 (password & username = root) Clicking on 'Operation Configuration' will show you which service you are on, under 'Maximum downstream Data Rate'. Then I would check that windows is set up properly for your BB speed by going here:- http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks and running Tweak Tester II to see if your RWIN is set correctly. If not, download DrTCP from the same site & set RWIN to a value it recommends. |
yes i have rebooted the modem.
will be ring TS later unless anyone has any better ideas |
